Having the opportunity to watch south Florida prospects year round certainly gives us an advantage when promoting football prospects.

For decades, we have made sure to expose as many players as possible – with college coaches watching 12 months a year.

With the 2022 season under way, several Miami-Dade and Broward County athletes continue to make an impact with many gaining exposure already.

Every month, we release hundreds of new names from watching and NOT sitting behind a computer. Colleges respect the fact that we give them much more from what everyone watched from a highlight tape.

Today, we bring you five more football players who are turning heads – some with no exposure at all – while others are already receiving attention.

2023 - Christian de Villiers, P/K, 6-4, 200, Miami Christopher Columbus. One of the nation’s elite punters and kickers, he had the opportunity to showcase his skill level in last week’s huge win against defending state champion Tampa Jesuit. He is explosive and accurate and has become one of the premier specialists in the country – combining distance and hang time that college coaches simply cannot ignore. Right now he is as good as ANY collegiate punter – with everything he does. Keep an eye on this quality talent because he is going to the next level – and way beyond! He also happens to have an amazing 5.2 GPA in the classroom.

2023 - Jordan Faison, DB/RB, 5-10, 170, Fort Lauderdale Pine Crest. One of the versatile prospects who has already started to showcase his skills on both sides of the ball – as a runner, who had 177 yards a week ago, and as a defensive prospect. On a team that has a number of quality football players, here is someone who has a chance to turn heads this season – with seven plus games left to go.

2024 - Jadyn Glasser, QB, 6-2, 195, South Plantation. Looking for a reason why the Paladins are 3-0 for the first time in well over decade? Here is a great place to start. Someone who put in plenty of time during the off-season at camps, combines and in 7-on-7 events. A quality young man who embraces the competition, wanting to prove that his arm strength and leadership as a junior is something that very few quarterbacks have. Keep an eye on his progress this season.

2025 Josh Moore, WR, 6-3, 170, Pembroke Pines West Broward. One of the new faces on the south Florida scene. Someone who has already turned enough heads with his many abilities as such a young prospect who had a huge game in front of several scouts and recruiters last week in McCallie, Tennessee with over 200 yards. Has the size, quickness and athletic ability that will only improve over the next three years. As more coaches and analysts find out about this impressive talent, you will see the offers pour in and the evaluations start to surface all over the internet.

2023 – Mark Wilder Jr., RB, 5-8, 175, Doral Academy. On a team loaded with talent, here is an impressive runner who combines so many positives. Has busted out of the gate this season, showcasing his speed, ability to pick out hole and come up with the big play. In last week’s win, he was indeed the difference with 295 yards and four scores for head coach Eddie Delgado and the Firebirds. Will continue to be one of the premier backs in south Florida throughout the 2022 season and colleges will continue to look in his direction.

As we now move to Week 4 of the high school football season, you will see teams starting to jockey for playoff position.

District and regional games are now being played – and the outcome will certainly give many programs an advantage.

This past week, a few teams had the chance to prove that they are ready. No. 2 Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna, No. 6 Miami Christopher Columbus, No. 7 Davie Western and No. 10 Homestead all remained unbeaten with huge victories.

With so many key games coming up, you will see more teams making a jump – while others will fall off.

Here is a look at this week’s Top 20 teams:

As we head toward Week 4, here is a look at how programs are doing in this region:

1. Miami Central (2M – 2-0). THIS WEEK: Miami Carol City on Friday, Sept. 16. NEXT GAME: A home game against No. 8 Fort Lauderdale Dillard on Sept. 23. LAST WEEK: The Rockets started slow but put it all together in a 36-19 win against Miami Booker T. Washington.

2. Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna (1M – 3-0). THIS WEEK: A huge home game on Friday, Sept. 16 against No. 5 Plantation American Heritage. NEXT GAME: Thursday, Sept. 22 at Miami Gulliver Prep at 3:30. LAST WEEK: The Lions once again rolled over a top-rated team on Saturday, 42-14, against Miami Northwestern.

3. Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas (3M – 3-0). THIS WEEK: A big game at unbeaten No. 7 Davie Western on Sept. 16. NEXT GAME: The team returns home for a Friday, Sept. 23 game against Port St. Lucie Treasure Coast. LAST WEEK: The train is once again rolling as the Raiders got by Cocoa, 42-14.

4. Fort Lauderdale Cardinal Gibbons (2M – 2-0). THIS WEEK: Miami Gulliver Prep, Sept. 9. NEXT GAME: A home game against St. Petersburg Northeast on Sept. 16. LAST WEEK: The defense remained very strong in shutting out Fort Lauderdale Calvary Christian, 30-0.

5. Plantation American Heritage (2M – 4-0: THIS WEEK: A huge road game against No. 2 Chaminade Madonna in Hollywood on Sept. 16. NEXT GAME: Will finally have a week off before a trip to play at No. 5 Fort Lauderdale Cardinal Gibbons on Sept. 30. LAST WEEK: The Patriots took care of Belle Glade Glades Central 56-0.

6. Miami Christopher Columbus (4M – 3-0). THIS WEEK: An away game on Sept. 16 against area rival Miami Palmetto. NEXT GAME: Another road game on Thursday, Sept. 23 at No. 9 Miami Northwestern. LAST WEEK: The Explorers got everyone’s attention with a huge home win against defending state champion, Tampa Jesuit, 32-15.

7. Davie Western (4M – 2-0). THIS WEEK: Things do not get any easier as the No. 3 St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders will come in for a huge home game on Friday, Sept. 16. A big home against No. 3 Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas on Sept. 16.  Sept. 9). NEXT GAME: The team will return home to play Coral Springs Taravella on Sept. 23. LAST WEEK: It was not easy, but a win is indeed a win as the Wildcats won on the road in overtime against much-improved No. 12 Coconut Creek, 10-3.

8. Fort Lauderdale Dillard (3M – 2-1). THIS WEEK: They will be off, getting ready for a tough run of games. NEXT GAME: The Panthers will take the week off before a road trip to play No. 1 Miami Central on Sept. 24. LAST WEEK: The Panthers got back in the win column with a road victory at Miramar, 35-7.

9. Miami Northwestern (2M – 2-1). THIS WEEK: A home game on Friday (Sept. 16) against Miami Edison. NEXT GAME: A key Thursday night (Sept. 22) home game against No. 6 Miami Christopher Columbus. LAST WEEK: Things didn’t go well last Saturday morning against No. 2 Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna as the Bulls lost 42-14.

10. Homestead (3M, 3-0). THIS WEEK: A Thursday night (Sept. 15) home game against Southwest Miami. NEXT GAME: Will enjoy the week off after a stellar start. LAST WEEK: The Broncos turned some heads with a convincing road win against St. Petersburg Lakewood, 24-14.

11. Miami Norland (2M – 2-0). THIS WEEK: An away game on Friday, Sept. 16 against Miami Monsignor Pace. NEXT GAME: An away game against Hialeah American on Friday, Sept. 23. LAST WEEK: The Vikings continued to show why they are going to be a force, beating Miami Southridge, 66-28.

12. Coconut Creek (3M – 2-1). THIS WEEK:  For the second straight year, they will be on the road at No. 15 Plantation on Sept. 16. NEXT GAME: A home game against No. 19 Pompano Beach Blanche Ely on Friday, Sept. 23. LAST WEEK: The Cougars fell short in overtime against No. 7 Davie Western, 10-3.

13. Miami Booker T. Washington (2M – 2-1). THIS WEEK: A home game on Sept. 16 against Miami Immaculata LaSalle. NEXT GAME: Coach Ice Harris and his team will be off. LAST WEEK: After playing tough with the No. 1 team in the state, the Tornadoes couldn’t put two halves together, losing to Miami Central, 36-19.

14. Fort Lauderdale (3M, 3-0). THIS WEEK: The team will take a week off. NEXT GAME: An away contest on Friday, Sept. 23 at Lauderdale Lakes Boyd Anderson. LAST WEEK: Going on the road to Tallahassee, the Flying Ls took care of business against Leon, 38-0.

15. Miramar (3M, 1-1). THIS WEEK: A home game against Pembroke Pines Flanagan on Sept. 16. NEXT GAME: A trip to Coral Springs on Sept. 23 to play Coral Glades. LAST WEEK: The Patriots dropped a home game to No. 8 Fort Lauderdale Dillard, 35-7.

16. Plantation (3M – 2-1). THIS WEEK: It’s back home for a huge showdown against No. 12 Coconut Creek. NEXT GAME: This team will enjoy the week off. LAST WEEK: The Colonels took it to Parkland Douglas, 40-26.

Before the 2022 season began, we told you that every week during the season would certainly be an adventure.

Three weeks in and nobody has been disappointed by what has transpired with south Florida programs making an impression nationally, and after last weekend, statewide as well.

When No. 2 Chaminade-Madonna and No. 5 Miami Northwestern was called off last Thursday because of lightning, there was talk about the game not being played – since it wasn’t a district contest and as far as playoff standing it meant nothing.

All night Thursday and into Friday, fans and players from both schools demanded that this game be played. From a financial standpoint and from a football point of view, it was a shame to let a matchup like this pass.

By the time Friday rolled around, the pressure began to mount with irate fans who had looked forward to this game voicing their opinion.

After Lions’ head coach Dameon Jones and Bulls’ head coach Max Edwards got together, both agreed that this marquee contest should indeed be played, and it was.

On Saturday morning, the two teams squared off at “The Mecca” Traz Powell Stadium, and by the end of the game, one of the best teams in the nation stood tall.

Using a high-powered offense and a solid defense, Chaminade-Madonna, with wins over national powerhouse St. John’s Prep of Washington D.C. and Fort Lauderdale Dillard, ran away from the Bulls, 42-14, and not only showed south Florida and the state that they can stand toe-to-toe with anyone, but sent a message to the nation that they are as good as ANYONE in the country.

The Lions, who will play Plantation American Heritage at home on Friday, still has an uphill climb to make it back to the state finals for the sixth consecutive season.

MIAMI CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS TURNS HEADS

When defending state champion Tampa Jesuit came south last Friday night to play 4M Christopher Columbus nobody really knew what to expect.

The Tigers were the only unbeaten team in 2021, knocking off St. Thomas Aquinas in the regular season and Northwestern in the playoffs on the way to their first ever title.

As good as they were last year, they struggled in the first two games of the season, barely getting out of the game against Port St. Lucie Treasure Coast, beating the Titans by one point.

For head coach Dave Dunn and his football team, two wins to start the season gave this program plenty of momentum against Tampa Jesuit.

Playing well on both sides of the ball, the Explorers ended the Tigers’ winning streak with a convincing 32-15 decision and got the attention of football fans across the state.

Playing well in the second half made the difference.

We have told you since back in May. It was a topic that pretty much dominated the landscape.

The impressive schedule that would be rolled out every single week in Miami-Dade and Broward County was something that couldn’t be ignored.

It began during the opening week with Miami Central’s win at national power IMG Academy and Miami Northwestern getting some payback at last year’s 8A state champion Venice.

There were the six wins against out of state teams in the inaugural Broward County Football Showcase and last week’s Chaminade-Madonna win at home against Fort Lauderdale Dillard.

With last night’s Chaminade-Madonna and Northwestern’s game called off, the attention now focuses on this evening – with five key games that will take center stage, involving Miami-Dade and Broward programs.

Here is a look at five games that will be in the spotlight tonight:

Cocoa at No. 3 Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas, 7:00. The Tigers finished second last season among 4A schools, and with Plantation High graduate Ryan Schneider at the helm, this was a game that certainly made sense, even with Cocoa’s opening-night loss to Orlando Jones. Coach Roger Harriott’s Raiders are passed just making the state championship a priority. They are top five in the country and plan staying that way after two wins to start the year.

Tampa Jesuit at No. 8 Miami Christopher Columbus, 7:00. The 2021 6A state champion Tigers – with head coach Matt Thompson – head south with two fairly close wins already. But if people across the state believe that this is just another game, they better check what head coach Dave Dunn and the Explorers have on this roster. Perhaps more elite 2024 talent than any other school. This is going to be a war – with two of Florida’s best teams. One who continues to shine in the spotlight – while the other is looking to prove them belong.

No. 7 Davie Western at No. 12 Coconut Creek, 7:00. On the surface, head coach Adam Ratkevich and his Wildcats come into this evening’s battle of unbeatens as an overwhelming favorite. They were impressive in an opening-week win against Johns Creek, Georgia in the Broward County Football Showcase. For head coach Johnnie Sloan and the Cougars, this is their opportunity, like last year against Plantation during the regular season, to showcase some quality players who have worked very hard to reach this elite game.

No. 9 Fort Lauderdale Dillard at No. 14 Miramar, 7:00. While you would expect head coach Tyler Tate’s Panthers to come out and be sky high after last week’s loss to Chaminade-Madonna, they are meeting a team that won their opener two weeks ago, has size, athletic ability and plenty of talent. But what head coach A.J. Scott and his Patriots may lack is experience. Both teams have been looking at this big game since the off-season.

No. 10 Homestead at St. Petersburg Lakewood, 7:00. Like Palm Beach Central did last week when they traveled to play head coach Corey Moore’s Spartans, look for the Broncos to do the same. What this team has done over the past two years is make a statement, and with a solid off-season and plenty of talent, head coach Philip Simpson and the Broncos are set to let everyone across the Sunshine State know exactly who they are.
