MIAMI – One week after collecting a $5,000 prize for winning the annual Tutu Atwell 7-on-7 in Liberty City, perennial 1A state champion and national powerhouse Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna took home yet another prize.
Led by incoming freshman (2029) quarterback Malik Leonard, subbing for Class of 2027 starter Tyler Chance who had to leave early for a college visit, the Lions won the $6,000 prize for winning the Second Annual Crib Classic 7-on-7 tournament at Christopher Columbus.
With a 19-14 win against 6A power Miami Southridge, the Lions capped off a solid spring and summer as new stars emerged – while veterans did their thing.
With Leonard taking home the MVP with some quality late games, the Lions were also led by Class of 2026 quarterback Darryon Jones, running backs Derrek Cooper and Elijah Hardy, and receiver Danarius Gray.
Class of 2027 running back Arwin Jackson and receiver James Klaiss Jr. – and 2028 receivers Tromon Issac and Peter Pierre.
The Lions also had some defensive standouts in 2026 defensive backs LeonZay Merzius, Daveon Black, and Sam Brown as well as linebacker Bryant Junius.
The Class of 2027 boasts John Gay III and D’Angelo Smith, and 2028 defensive backs Dwayne Ray III and Christian Davis.
The Lions’ future was also on display with Leonhardt at quarterback and other 2029 prospects Derrick Jones (Athlete) and defensive backs Maurice Wright, Sidney Milcent and Delvin Brooks.
In addition to the Lions and Spartans, other teams that took part in the day-long event included Miami Killian, Hollywood McArthur, Miami True North Classical Academy, Plantation, Coconut Creek Monarch, Miami Central, West Palm Beach Cardinal Newman, Miami Edison, Plantation American Heritage, Delray Beach Atlantic, host team Miami Christopher Columbus, defending champion Miami Norland, Hialeah Gardens Maters Academy and Miami Palmetto.
