We are down to the final two weeks of the 2026 high school football season here in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties and several questions still remain.
With district titles and playoff slotting still hanging in the balance, we get things started tonight with a few local matchups that will be very interesting to watch.
As this season has focused on the inaugural Open Division, a majority of the teams who will play in the post season have had their eyes on a much different prize.
If you happen to be among those eight programs who will compete for a first ever title in that newly formed division, you will spend the post season testing the uncharted waters for the first time. If you are either competing for a 1A-6A title or the several independent crowns, the next few weeks will be a time to prepare.
Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna (6-2) at Fort Lauderdale Cardinal Gibbons (6-2), 6. This is a makeup game of a contest that was scheduled earlier this month during the rainy season.
Two teams who have wrapped up their district titles – while the Lions are still in the hunt for an Open Division spot, which was pretty much a given since the start of the season, despite losing twice.
The Chiefs have started to get hot as they look to repeat last year’s playoff success as a Final Four team. Last year in 2A and this season as a member of 3A.

Miami Archbishop Carroll (6-1) vs. Miami Killian (7-1), Southridge, 7. Here is a classic late season matchup between two teams that won their district and are headed to the post season.
For the 1A Bulldogs, their only loss came to state-rated Tampa Berkeley Prep in a game where they battled for all four quarters before dropping a close matchup. This is a well-coached team with some top-flight players.
The 2A Cougars have been on a roll since lose their opener the annual “Big Cat” contest against Miami Palmetto. They have met several challenges along the way and come into the game loaded on both sides of the ball.
This is a fast and aggressive defense that will be facing off against a challenging Wing-T offensive attack.
