Chaminade-Madonna All But Seals Place In ‘Open Division’ Playoff

When veteran head coach Dameon Jones led his Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna football team to a convincing 41-6 win over Fort Lauderdale Cardinal Gibbons, it all but cemented a place in the inaugural “Open Division” football state playoffs.

The Lions, who close out the regular season at Coconut Creek (8-1) this Friday have played a tough enough schedule to be included in the eight teams who will compete for a title.

Along with Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas, Miami Christopher Columbus, West Boca Raton, Miami Carol City (currently ineligible for post season play), Miami Central, Orlando The First Academy, West Palm Beach Cardinal Newman and Lakeland, the Lions – if the state playoffs began today – would see those teams in a round robin playoff to determine the state semifinalist – with the title game held among the other 1A-6A title contests.

Last Thursday, junior quarterback Brady Quinn shined against Cardinal Gibbons as he threw for 238 in a 41-6 win.

In Quinn’s two seasons as a varsity quarterback, including last year at Naples Lely, he has thrown 63 touchdown passes.

Quinn threw scoring passes to University of Florida commitment Armani Strong for eight yards in the first quarter for a 6-0 lead and a second to Strong for three yards for a 27-3 lead with 1:32 left in the opening half.

Senior running back Amos Bradford, who is headed to Purdue, added a pair of rushing touchdowns of 20 and 9 yards between Brady’s first two touchdown tosses.

With a 34-6 lead following a 23-yard fumble return for a touchdown by Alexander Beltran, Brady completed the Lions scoring with 49 catch and run by junior Peter Pierre.

The Chiefs’ scoring came on field goals of 39 and 43 yards by senior Tyler Fuquay.

In addition to that game, here are a few other Miami-Dade and Broward contests this past week:
