As we move into Week 6, there are so many football prospects that still haven’t had the opportunity to jump on that important radar screen.
While the off-season was productive, it is never enough – especially with so many players who are searching for the attention needed to help land college assistance, and that in this crazy economy, is essential for so many young men who play this sport.
Throughout the course of a year, we bring you more players than any one source – because our objective is not to spotlight the star-rated athletes, but also include prospects that may not be names that many are throwing around.

2023 – Cole Baird, DE, 6-5, 230, Fort Lauderdale Calvary Christian Academy. One of those smaller school prospects that may not get the attention that some of the other athletes do, but once you watch him perform, it is a no brainer that it truly does not matter where he plays and who he goes up against. Quick off the ball, this is someone who plays this game with plenty of passion. He reads plays very well and when college coaches spend more time watching him, they will see a very smart young man who not only gets it done on the field, but also in the classroom where his 1210 SAT illustrates why he is so highly regarded.

2023 - Marcus Dixon, FB/DE, 6-0, 205, Coconut Creek North Broward Prep. Don’t let this two-way football prospect fool you. His running style is one of a power back who is quicker than many believe. Great vision and has the ability to get out of the backfield to catch the ball. His blocking skills will certainly become attractive to college coaches looking for that kind of back. Fullback or running back, he can be used at both positions on offense – as well as playing a linebacker or even as a defensive end.

2024 - Kareem Glass, WR, 5-10, 170, Miami Coral Park. During the summer at several stops that the Rams made, first year head coach Vernon Wilder III talked about several prospects that he was excited about. Here is one of them. Just a junior, this a versatile receiver who will play outside, the slot and is valuable on “jet sweep” plays, showcasing his quickness and vision. Turns short gains into something that has helped this team get off to an impressive 3-1 start. College coaches are starting to see what he brings to the table – and will continue watching.

2024 – Jose Leon, WR, 5-10, 170, Miami Christopher Columbus. Talk about prospects who have blown up this season. If you’ve never watched this quality playmaker you are missing someone who is among the best in south Florida. You heard that right. This is a receiver who is fast (4.56 – 40), runs outstanding routes and has gotten it done against some top competition. Just a junior, this impressive talent not only makes an impact on the field as a go-to player, but has been equally as sound in the classroom where he holds down a 3.6 GPA.

2023 FLORIDA FOOTBALL PROSPECT WATCH: Levy Miller, RB, 5-9, 170, South Miami. This five-year varsity starter continues to fly way beneath the radar – as a runner who continues to pile up the yards and help the Cobras make some major strides. Has always had a burst of speed and great vision. While college coaches already know about him, he has matured and become a better all-around back.

MIAMI-DADE/BROWARD: Week 6 Brings On New Challenges
While the rest of the state is preparing and recovering from Hurricane Ian, south Florida may be fortunate to have dodged a major bullet.
If you go back in time, this region of Florida has always been a target when it comes to these storms and has forced cancellations and postponements for decades.
Very few changes this week at the top – but that will certainly change as district season opens and the stakes are really going to rise.
A few new teams get to call themselves a Top 20 squad – and will try to maintain that status, which is recognized by fellow coaches, players and fans.
As we head toward Week 6, here is a look at how programs are doing in this region:
1. Miami Central (2M – 4-0). THIS WEEK: An away game on Sept. 30 against North Miami Beach. NEXT GAME: The annual war against No. 11 Miami Northwestern on Oct. 7 at Traz Powell Stadium. LAST WEEK: The Rockets blasted No. 12 Fort Lauderdale Dillard, 43-7
2. Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna (1M – 4-0). THIS WEEK: Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna (1M – 5-0). THIS WEEK: A home game on Sept. 30 against Port St. Lucie Treasure Coast. NEXT GAME: Venice has called off next week's much-anticipated matchup without a makeup planned.. LAST WEEK: The Lions remained hot with a convincing 28-0 win against Miami Gulliver in a game that was called at the half due to bad weather.
3. Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas (3M – 5-0). THIS WEEK: A home game against Miramar on Sept. 30. NEXT GAME: A huge road district matchup with a Fort Lauderdale Dillard team that came close to beating them last year. LAST WEEK: The Raiders went on the road again and took care of business against Port St. Lucie Treasure Coast, 21-7.
4. Fort Lauderdale Cardinal Gibbons (2M – 5-0). THIS WEEK: It’s a huge home game on Sept. 30 against No. 6 Plantation American Heritage. NEXT GAME: A Thursday (Oct. 6) home game against Miami Belen Jesuit schedule for FAU. LAST WEEK: The Chiefs went to Key West, 63-7.
5. Miami Christopher Columbus (4M – 5-0). THIS WEEK: An away game on Friday, Sept. 30 against Miami High. NEXT GAME: A huge hurdle on Oct. 7 against No. 7 Homestead on the road. LAST WEEK: The Explorers went north and took care of business against No. 25 Miami Northwestern, 23-19.
6. Plantation American Heritage (2M – 4-1). THIS WEEK: A huge road game at No. 4 Fort Lauderdale Cardinal Gibbons on Sept. 30. NEXT GAME: A home game on Ot. 7 against No. 8 Davie Western. LAST WEEK: The Patriots took the week off.
7. Homestead (3M, 4-0). THIS WEEK: A home game against South Miami on Sept. 30. NEXT GAME: A really big home game on Oct. 7 against No. 5 Miami Christopher Columbus. WEEK: The Broncos took the week off after a solid start.
8. Davie Western (4M – 3-1). THIS WEEK: It’s back on the road on Sept. 30 at Sunrise Piper. NEXT GAME: Another big road game against No. 6 Plantation American Heritage on Oct. 7. LAST WEEK: The Wildcats came back after their first loss with a 51-0 win against Coral Springs Taravella.
9. Miami Norland (2M – 4-0). THIS WEEK: They will take the week off. NEXT GAME: A huge Thursday night (Oct. 6) contest against No. 10 Miami Booker T. Washington. LAST WEEK: The Vikings won for the fourth straight time this season, 49-0, against Hialeah American.
10. Miami Booker T. Washington (2M – 4-1). THIS WEEK: It’s a “neighborhood rivalry” at home against Miami Jackson on Thursday, Sept. 29. NEXT GAME: An Oct. 6 showdown with No. 9 Miami Norland. LAST WEEK: The Tornadoes continued to look impressive on the field with a 26-6 win against Miami Carol City.
11. Miami Northwestern (2M – 3-2). THIS WEEK: The team will take the week off. NEXT GAME: The much-anticipated annual showdown with No. 1 Miami Central. LAST WEEK: The Bulls, despite missing several starters – including record-setting quarterback Taron Dickens – hung tough before losing to No. 5 Miami Christopher Columbus, 23-19.
12. Fort Lauderdale Dillard (3M – 2-2). THIS WEEK: A home game on Sept. 30 against Lauderdale Lakes Boyd Anderson. NEXT GAME: It’s the Oct. 7 showdown at home against No. 3 Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas. LAST WEEK: The Panthers were soundly beaten by No. 1 Miami Central, 43-7.
13. Fort Lauderdale (3M, 4-0). THIS WEEK: A huge road game on Friday against No. 16 Pompano Beach Blanche Ely. NEXT GAME: A home game against a competitive Coconut Creek team on Oct. 7. LAST WEEK: The Flying Ls shut down Lauderdale Lakes Boyd Anderson, 27-0.
14. Miramar (3M, 3-1). THIS WEEK: A huge away game against No. 3 Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas on Sept. 30. NEXT GAME: A Thursday night away game against Pembroke Pines Charter on Oct. 6. LAST WEEK: The Patriots made it two straight shutouts with a 47-0 win against Coral Springs Coral Glades.
15. Plantation (3M – 3-1). THIS WEEK: A rivalry game at home on Sept. 30 against unbeaten and No. 20 South Plantation. NEXT GAME: A Friday night game at Davie Nova on Oct. 7. LAST WEEK: The Colonels enjoyed the week off.
16. Pompano Beach Blanche Ely (3M, 3-0). THIS WEEK: Yet another key contest at home against No. 13 and unbeaten Fort Lauderdale. NEXT GAME: Will have the week off. LAST WEEK: The Tigers came up with a huge win against Coconut Creek, 28-21.
17. Hollywood Avant Garde (1M, 3-1). THIS WEEK: A home game on Sept. 29 against Ocoee Legacy Charter. NEXT GAME: A Thursday night home game against Palm Beach Christian Prep on Oct. 6. LAST WEEK: Bounced back from a loss to Miami Dr. Krop with a 41-0 win against St. John Paul II.

NEXT GAME: A Thursday home contest against Sunrise Piper. LAST WEEK: Won for the fourth straight time, getting this team off to its best start in nearly two decades, and into the Top 20 for the first time, beating Cooper City, 35-14.

It is now evident at the halfway point of the season, there are three teams in the state of Florida who are certainly playing at a different level.
Take nothing away from so many stellar programs – locally and statewide, but Miami Central (4-0), Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna (5-0) and Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas (5-0) are easily the best three in Florida and Top 5-10 nationally.
Between the three schools in the past five years you have 11 state titles, and all three are favored to add another title this season.
The Rockets disposed of Fort Lauderdale Dillard on Saturday night at Traz Powell Stadium, 43-7, using key plays on offense and a defense that limited just one big play. Head Coach Jube Joseph knows that if his Rockets continue on this path, they will have a legitimate national title claim. No matter what Max Preps or anyone else says. The weekly competition in this state is unmatched -m and the challenge has been set to bring those national powers to this region of the country and play a football schedule and see how powerful they are. ANY TEAM can win one big game but try 10 and a five-game gauntlet in the playoffs.

As you have already watched the past four weeks, this season is going to be filled with marquee matchups that every fan will want to check out.
This week the big game in south Florida will be on Saturday night at Traz Powell Stadium when the No. 1 team in Florida, Miami Central (3-0), plays host to the No. 7 team locally, Fort Lauderdale Dillard (2-1).
While there has been a lot of talk about this game – from both sides – there is not denying the fact that the Rockets come in a huge favorites to stay unbeaten under first year head coach Jube Joseph.
The Rockets are loaded on both sides of the ball and have already shown that they are indeed a team that is ready for its ninth state title and fourth in a row.
For the Panthers and head coach Tyler Tate, a loss to No. 2 Hollywood Chaminade Madonna hurt, and although they have bounced back from that game, a win on Saturday night can change the entire program that still has No. 3 St. Thomas Aquinas left in the schedule. From an exposure standpoint, very few teams can say that they have played the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 teams in the state like Dillard will do by season’s end!

Here are a four more contests to check out:
No. 3 Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas (4-0) at Port St. Lucie Treasure Coast (1-3), South County Municipal Stadium, 7:00. The Raiders hit the road against one of the best 1-3 programs in Florida. One that has been more than tested and are very familiar with Miami-Dade and Broward competition, and while the Titans have high hopes, they have not played anyone remotely like St. Thomas Aquinas. This is solid road test for head coach Roger Harriott and his team, but depth and overall ability should separate these two teams quickly. Coach Irvin Jones and his team have beaten some quality opponents in the past.
No. 17 Miami Palmetto (1-3) at Vero Beach (4-0), Sebastian River High School, 7:00. Another Treasure Coast matchup for south Florida on the road. The Panthers had such high hopes of having a banner season, things have not started well with some crushing losses. Head Coach Mike Manasco and the Panthers know that their work will be cut out for them against the Indians and head coach Lenny Jankowski who have done very well against competition from the #305 and #954 throughout the years.
No. 18 Pompano Beach Blanche Ely (2-0) at No. 16 Coconut Creek (2-2), 7:00. The saddest part about this quality matchup is nobody will get to see it. We are living in times where a few bad apples can ruin everything, and with threatening calls made about this game, the two teams and game officials will be the only ones allowed in for a contest that both programs had looked forward to. Head Coach Johnnie Sloan and the Cougars have lost two straight and look to get back on the winning track – while head coach Mike Bailey and his football team look to make it three straight and continue to turn heads.
Windermere Prep (4-0) at Fort Lauderdale Pine Crest (3-1), 7:00. It’s not often that the Panthers can jump into the spotlight, but after wins against Fort Lauderdale NSU University School (30-7), Fort Lauderdale Archbishop McCarthy (30-14) and Delray American Heritage (27-13), the Panthers get a Top 5 game this week at home against a quality team. The Lakers storm south with four quality wins under their belt, outscoring the opposition, 176-40. But head coach Timothy Hibbs and his team is ready to make a statement against a quality opponent.

As we have said over and over again, this year has already been special – with marquee matchup served up every week.
This week’s main course kicks off the 5th week of the 2022 season tonight – when No. 5 Miami Christopher Columbus (4-0) visits Miami Northwestern (3-1) at Traz Powell Stadium at 7:00.
For head coach Dave Dunn and his Explorers, this evening’s matchup is another chance to show that his team is among the elite ion the state. But the assignment is not that easy. They have not done well in the past with this program, but of course, that was a different time.
Head Coach Max Edwards and his Bulls truly need this win to put themselves back in the spotlight. They have played a crazy schedule – being dominated by No. 2 Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna two weeks ago, 42-14.
This is indeed a game that is going to get plenty of attention – with media and recruiting fan websites flocking to the “Mecca” for this quality south Florida contest.
