Each and every Wednesday throughout the course of a year, we bring you prospects from Miami-Dade and Broward Counties that deserve the spotlight.

While many are already on the radar for college coaches and fans, there are others that we introduce for the first time from watching live and seeing what they bring to the table from a different perspective.

With many recruiting services and promotional websites getting these standout prospects out from watching film, we have always believed in attending as many practices, combines, camps, 7-on-7 events and games as possible – giving the colleges and those fans who watch high school football a fair assessment on the student/athletes who compete.

While promoting these young men year-round has always been an objective, the colleges and universities have long trusted in the evaluations that we bring them – aside from what we write in these brief paragraphs about football talent in these two counties.

While this particular blog is devoted to Miami-Dade and Broward Counties, our year-round coverage of the entire state of Florida gives us a huge advantage when comparing talent, and while many throw around “the best” when talking about certain standouts, we have more than a valid way of determining how well-rounded these football players are when comparing them to each other.

Today, we have five more football players that we have been fortunate to watch from as close as five feet away:

2024 – Jordan Lyle, RB, 6-0, 190, Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas. Every year it seems like the Raiders have a running back that sets the bar higher and higher, and this impressive junior has already established himself as one of the best this storied program has produced. Drawing attention from major colleges nationally, what he brings to the table is something that very few have been able to do. In addition to his running style, he has the size, versatility, and talent to make it to the next level and beyond. Will be one of the best in the country next year as a senior.

2023 – Winstanson Mathurin, OL, 6-5, 270, Coconut Creek Monarch. Coming from Coral Springs, here is one of the hidden gems in south Florida. Big, quick, strong and talented are things that college coaches have started to watch – especially during a season when the Knights have done so well. Watch him play and you see someone who dominates and is just scratching the surface. His ability to play either guard or tackle is something that has drawn plenty of attention. Add in the fact that his work in the classroom (4.2 GPA) continues to open doors and you have something very special in this student/athlete!

2024 – Jonathan Morillo, QB, 6-1, 172, Pembroke Pines West Broward. With all the quarterbacks in south Florida getting so much pre-season hype and attention, here is one who received very little of the spotlight but is a gifted young man who has turned out to be one of the best in the entire state in his junior year. He has been among the top 10 overall passers for the Bobcats as this program continues to grow and build along with amazing sophomore receiver Joshua Moore, who we spotlighted before anyone else had the opportunity to watch him early in the season. Morillo will blow up during the off-season and you can count on that.

2023 – Julius Pascal, RB/FS, 5-11, 175, Miami Dr. Krop. There are so many versatile two-way prospects in south Florida this year, but very few who can do what this young man has done. A three-year starter for the Lightning, he is regarded as one of the top running backs, where he went over 1,000 yards and scored 12 times, as well as a defensive back who can play three positions and create positives with four interceptions – one for a game-changing touchdown. Solid talent that college coaches continue to watch.

2024 – Amare Sanders, CB/WR, Miami Gulliver Prep. Like Gabe Taylor, who is currently at Rice University and was a one year football standout for the Raiders, here is a gifted prospect who made a name for himself on the basketball court before showcasing his many skills. While following in the footsteps of his older brother, Tony Sanders (6-7) who is a basketball standout at Notre Dame University, many who follow this game feel that his future on the football field is already being carved out. After watching him twice this season, this is someone who has a chance to blow up in the off-season and head into his final year next season as one of the elite prospects. Remember his name because he is truly a gifted athlete in many arenas.

Well, we have gotten to the place where seniors had worked hard to get to.

The 11^th and final week of the 2022 high school football season, and while some teams are still alive to realize their dreams of playing in the post season, others are ready to say goodbye to a sport they have worked hard to play all of their lives.

As some will take part in the state playoffs, others will prepare for college or get ready for a life ahead.

High school football has indeed been fun, and whether you are extending you football career or calling it quits after this week, it is something that you will look back at for years and years to come.

While we will continue to run our football rankings until the end of the season, here is a look at how things stand heading into Week 11:

1. Miami Central (2M – 9-0). THIS WEEK: Off This Week. NEXT GAME: State Playoffs Next Week. LAST WEEK: The Rockets ended the regular season as district champions, beating Miami Gardens Monsignor Pace, 50-14.

2. Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna (1M – 8-0). THIS WEEK: The regular season comes to an end at home with a Thursday night (6:00) makeup game with Port St. Lucie Treasure Coast. NEXT GAME: State Playoffs Next Week. LAST WEEK: The Lions rolled to their fourth straight shutout, 63-0.

3. Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas (3M – 9-0). THIS WEEK: The Raiders will be off. NEXT GAME: State Playoffs Next Week. LAST WEEK: The Raiders finished the regular season with a 44-0 win against Lauderdale Lakes Boyd Anderson.

4. Plantation American Heritage (2M, 9-1). THIS WEEK: The final week of the regular season will be off. NEXT GAME: State Playoffs Next Week. LAST WEEK: The Patriots closed out the season with a 63-0 district win against Hallandale.

5. Miami Christopher Columbus (4M, 9-1). THIS WEEK: The final regular season week will be off. NEXT GAME: State Playoffs Next Week. LAST WEEK: The Explorers ended the regular season with a 42-0 win against Hialeah Goleman.

6. Fort Lauderdale Cardinal Gibbons (2M, 9-1). THIS WEEK: The Chiefs will have the final week off. NEXT GAME: State Playoffs Next Week. LAST WEEK: The two-time defending state champions won their regular season finale, 49-20 against Fort Lauderdale Stranahan.

7. Miramar (3M, 6-1). THIS WEEK: The regular season comes to an end with a Nov. 4 home game against Hollywood South Broward. NEXT GAME: State Playoffs Next Week. LAST WEEK: The Patriots made it six straight with a Mayor’s Cup 50-6 win over Miramar Everglades.

8. Pompano Beach Blanche Ely (3M, 8-0). THIS WEEK: It’s the annual showdown at No. 9 Fort Lauderdale Dillard on Saturday, Nov. 5. NEXT GAME: State Playoffs Next Week. LAST WEEK: The Tigers made it eight straight with a 47-12 win against West Boca Raton.

9. Fort Lauderdale Dillard (3M – 6-3). THIS WEEK:  It’s the annual “Soul Bowl” showdown at home against No. 8 Pompano Beach Blanche Ely on Saturday, Nov. 5. NEXT GAME: State Playoffs Next Week. LAST WEEK: The Panthers went on the road and took care of Tallahassee Lincoln, 35-10,

10. Miami Booker T. Washington (2M –7-2). THIS WEEK: The Tornadoes take the final week of the regular season off. NEXT GAME: State Playoffs Next Week. LAST WEEK: This program ended the impressive regular season with a convincing 35-8 win over Westland Hialeah.

11. Plantation (3M – 7-2). THIS WEEK: The regular season comes to an end with a Friday road game against No. 16 Davie Western. NEXT GAME: State Playoffs Next Week. LAST WEEK: The Colonels rolled on with a 42-15 district game against Sunrise Piper.

12. Miami Norland (2M – 6-2). THIS WEEK: The regular season comes to an end with a Thursday, Nov. 3 home game against Miami Killian. NEXT GAME: State Playoffs Next Week. LAST WEEK: The Vikings put their offense into high gear with a 51-42 win over North Miami Beach.

13. Homestead (3M, 7-2). THIS WEEK: They will take the final week of the regular season off. NEXT GAME: State Playoffs Next Week. LAST WEEK: The Broncos won a key district game against Miami Belen Jesuit, 18-7.

14. Coconut Creek Monarch (4M, 7-2). THIS WEEK: The regular season comes to an end with a Nov. 4 home game against Deerfield Beach. NEXT GAME: State Playoffs Next Week. LAST WEEK: The Knights bounced back with a 40-0 district win against Coral Springs.

15. Fort Lauderdale Calvary Christian (2M, 8-2). THIS WEEK: The team will have off this week. NEXT GAME: State Playoffs Next Week. LAST WEEK: The Eagles ended the regular season with a bounce back district win, 40-0, against Oakland Park Northeast.

16. Davie Western (4M – 54-3). THIS WEEK: The regular season comes to an end with a home game on Nov. 4 against No. 11 Plantation. NEXT GAME: State Playoffs Next Week. LAST WEEK: The Wildcats rolled to a convincing 63-0 win and wrapped up another district title.

17. Miami Northwestern (2M – 5-4). THIS WEEK: The final week of the regular season will be off. NEXT GAME: State Playoffs Next Week. LAST WEEK: The Bulls bounced back to win the district title, 44-0, against Miami LaSalle Immaculata as senior quarterback Taron “Tyger” Dickens became the all-time leading passer in Miami-Dade County.

18. Hollywood Avant Garde (1M, 6-2). THIS WEEK: A season-ending regular season game at Miami Gardens Monsignor Pace. NEXT GAME: State Playoffs Next Week. LAST WEEK: The Sharks got back on the winning track with a 41-0 win against North Lauderdale Somerset Prep.

19. Coconut Creek (3M, 6-3). THIS WEEK: The Cougars travel to Miami to play Palmetto on Thursday, Nov. 3. NEXT GAME: State Playoffs Next Week. LAST WEEK: Won for the fourth straight time, 40-0, against Deerfield Beach.

20. Miami Jackson (2M, 6-3). THIS WEEK: The regular season comes to an end on Friday, Nov. 4 with a home game against Miami High. NEXT GAME: State Playoffs Next Week. LAST WEEK: The Generals won for the sixth time in the past seven games, 15-6, over Miami Edison.

Since the day that he arrived on Miami Northwestern’s campus Taron “Tyger” Dickens stole the spotlight.

After a brilliant youth football career, he made his way to Overtown just in time to guide the Bulls to a state championship win against Orlando Jones. His 25 touchdowns and over 1,000 yard season set the table for a brilliant future.

The 13-2 record was capped off with eight straight wins and a 34-17 state title victory.

The 2020-21 season was indeed a tough year – with this team losing to Plantation American Heritage, 12-3 in the second round of the state playoffs and a 5-4 year. But Dickens still managed to do his thing, putting up big numbers despite his team falling short.

Last season was another year where the trip to the state finals fell short, losing to eventual 6A state champion Tampa Jesuit and finishing 10-4.

Dickens would end his junior season with an amazing 42 touchdowns and well over 2,500 yards, which set the table for his senior year.

With the Miami-Dade County passing record up for grabs – with Miami Booker T. Washington’s Torrey Morrison sitting at 10,076, Dickens was up for the challenge.

Last Saturday night in a game against Miami Immaculata LaSalle, Tyger threw for 281 yards in a 44-0 win and put himself into first place as the all-time leading passer in a county and an area that has produced more than its share of stars.

While Week 10 may not produce some of the elite matchups that we have had much of the 2022 high school football season, you can guarantee that several contests will carry a lot of weight for district titles and playoff placement.

As teams are still in the survival mode, you never know which program will show up this week, and that makes things very interesting.

Every week during the season, we pick out five games to keep an eye on. Here is this week’s schools to watch:

No. 9 Fort Lauderdale Dillard (5-3) at Tallahassee Lincoln (5-3), 7. After a rough start, the Panthers are getting things back together – and a road trip to the state capitol is going to be a challenge. With an eye on making a splash in the playoffs, this will be a game that this team should win, but with next Saturday’s huge showdown with unbeaten Pompano Beach Blanche Ely on the horizon, you never know where their heads will be at.

Miami Carol City (5-3) at Ocala Vanguard (5-3), 7:30. Look who is back among the winning teams. The Chiefs have made a huge push to make the playoffs, and a trip to play a very solid program will further test how far this football team has come. This is going to be a challenge as Carol City’s many younger players are starting to make a major contribution.

Miami Edison (4-4) at No. 20 Miami Jackson, Curtis, 7:30. This is one of those rivalries that goes back decades, and while playoff spots are still up for grabs, this will certainly be a game that will test how far each program has come. The Red Raiders and Generals have been tested this season, and with an appearance in the Top 20 for the first time this season, Jackson wants to keep the momentum.

Hollywood McArthur (4-4) at Miami Dr. Krop (4-4) at Ives Park, 7:30. Things do not get any bigger this week. A McArthur win and the district goes to the Mustangs, but if the Lightning come away with a victory and Hollywood South Broward could come away with the title – based on points since all three would be tied under the state’s new format.

No. 7 Miramar (6-1) at Miramar Everglades (4-4), 7. This is a rivalry that has gone on since Everglades opened up. Although one sided, the Gators have played very well this season, but to beat the Patriots they are going to need a maximum effort – since Miramar has been one of the best teams in south Florida over the past month.
