To say the past two weeks have not gone as the Miami Norland Vikings had planned is a major understatement.
The Vikings (0-0, 2-4) were the team that many felt would give defending state 4A champion Plantation American Heritage a run this season in district play. But after convincing losses to Miami Northwestern (49-21) and Delray Beach Atlantic (43-20), their season could hang in the balance tonight (7:00) when they play host to Southwest Ranches Archbishop McCarthy (0-0, 4-1) in what is now a key district contest at Traz Powell Stadium.
This has indeed been a crazy season for first year head coach Tyronn Johnson and his team – after blowing a 22-point lead in the opening game and losing to defending state 7A runner up Lake Mary, 30-29.
They rebounded with wins against rival Carol City and Homestead South Dade, only to see everything fall apart in convincing losses.
HUGE GAME FOR THE MAVERICKS AS WELL
While Norland is trying to find itself and rebound with a district win, first year head coach Jake Pew and his Archbishop McCarthy team can certainly make a statement with a win.
This is a team that started out with a huge Broward National Showcase win against Cardinal Gibbons but dropped a game to 1A Miami True North. A win this evening would be huge for the program with American Heritage and Plantation still left to play in the district.
