While many schools are focused on the inaugural “Open Division” that will shine a spotlight the best eight teams in the state, there are several other teams who are just worrying about getting into the playoffs.
As we completed the eighth week of the 2026 season here in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties, several programs came up with wins that will give them a chance to play in the post-season:
American Heritage (Plantation) 27, Norland (Miami) 2. While the two-time defending state champions still have a slight chance, with their competitive schedule, to make it into the Open Division, if not they will be a No. 1 seed in their region and will have the chance the “Three-Peat”.
Chaminade-Madonna (Hollywood) 20, Cardinal Newman (West Palm Beach) 7. With the win on the road, the Lions avenged last year’s 1A state title and certainly put themselves in a position to be one of the elite eight teams come playoff time.
Fort Lauderdale 27, Stoneman Douglas (Parkland) 7. While they are playing as an independent team this year, the Flying Ls remained ubeaten, bringing plenty of recruiting attention to the players.
Piper (Sunrise) 54, Boyd Anderson (Lauderdale Lakes) 13. The Bengals continue to play competitive football and are very much in the post-season conversation. The next two weeks will also tell the story.
Western (Davie) 48, Doral Academy 14. The Wildcats also stayed right in the post season conversation with a big district road win. This a program that could easily make plenty of noise in the coming weeks.
