When it comes to exciting elite level high school football games, Miami-Dade and Broward Counties have no rival.
It doesn’t matter where you go in this nation, it will be hard to find the weekly matchups that are played, involving teams that are nationally rated.
Keep in mind that in the latest national ranking, seven south Florida teams were rated among the top 25. More than Texas, California, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Louisiana or any other football “hotbed” there happens to be.
No. 9 Miami Booker T. Washington at No. 5 Miami Norland (Traz), 7. Well, the talk is over. Bragging about which team is better will be settled this evening.
Veteran head coach Tim “Ice” Harris and his BTW Tornadoes get another opportunity to knock off another elite south Florida high school football team. Remember, they battled national power and four-time defending state champion Miami Central down to the end before losing 38-28.
This team is stacked with big time prospects and well coached. They split the two meetings last year – with them winning in the regular season and dropping a state playoff contest.
For head coach Darryl Heidelburg and his high-powered team (52 points per game) has a second test of the season.
In the opener, they beat defending 4S state champs Lakeland on the road, and in the process, turned a lot of heads and convinced many – across the state and locally – that they are a team that could indeed break Miami Central’s dominance, but that is next week.
This team needs to put the entire focus on this evening’s matchup. If they win, it sets up an even bigger district title game next week. A loss will only give those fans a reason to believe that this season was all hype. This game has much a stake and will capture the attention of every football fan in Florida.
