While the great thing about high school football in Miami-Dade County may not be convenient for everyone, the lack of facilities certainly make it fun for those who love to watch the sport four days a week.
While Thursday and Friday are pretty much the norm for football across the nation, playing Wednesday and Saturday in the #305 has given this who follow and evaluate talent another avenue to see games.
Because nearly all public schools do not have facilities with lights, it has forced the county and the Greater Miami Athletic Conference to play doubleheaders as well as on Wednesday and Saturday.
No. 17 Miami Edison at No. 8 Miami Palmetto (Tropical), 7. This week’s game that is scheduled for today looks to be a good matchups as the teams head down the homestretch – with district games taking center stage.
This non-district contest will feature 4M Palmetto, who lost only to favorite Christopher Columbus, and Miami Edison, which dropped a road game at St. Petersburg against the same Lakewood team that head coach Mike Manasco and his team had little problem with.
While the Red Raiders offer no excuses, the contest was played without head coach Luther Campbell, who has built this team over the past few years into a contender.
Each team has a signature win – with Palmetto knocking off the defending 3M state runner up Homestead Broncos – with Edison beat Miami Northwestern for the first time in over two decades.
While this is not a district game, both teams are certainly ready for the challenge.
