There is so much talent every year in south Florida – especially at the receiver position – big time young prospects are overlooked.
Whenever a quarterback prospect is mentioned in south Florida, it comes with some skepticism.
College coaches don’t head this far south to find a position that can be found in dozens of states. Those who play the position at this stage of their careers are only doing it because they are athletes – and of course – that will change when they get to the next level and move positions.
We talk about great receivers, top defensive backs and emerging linemen in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties. There are also running backs and linebackers. But the one position that is perhaps boasted about in south Florida the least are the quarterbacks.
For decades and decades, this area has always produced quarterbacks who have gone on to the next level – and even beyond. But still, this is NOT a region of the country that college coaches rush to when searching out a difference maker at the quarterback position.
With the end of the year for this current senior class – and the recent spotlight that was shining on the student/athletes, the one thing that is indeed very important at the end of the day is what happens in the classroom.
Getting a college scholarship is no longer an automatic thing, and for that reason, students are encouraged to hit the books more than ever before.
When anyone tells you that making the playoffs – or even better – reaching the state title game – is not important, ignore them. They are certainly not a reliable resource in the recruiting game.
With so much focus these days squarely on recruiting in the state of Florida, and with all the media, fan websites and recruiting services that watch and get out names, exposure is the name of the game.
