As we have said over and over again about former professional athletes who call south Florida home, they have long raised the talent level in all sports.
Because their children grow up and compete in leagues with high level talent and continue to elevate the football that is played from Florida City to Deerfield Beach and everywhere in between, we see athletes that are learning this game from those who have been to that next level and beyond.
If you want to know why south Florida continues to be an area that college coaches flock to each year, all you have to do is trace the talent that is produced annually.
No matter what class it may be, Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach Counties seem to have that right formula for churning out talent that is ready to make an impact the moment they arrive in high school.
As the pandemic has dictated what has transpired on high school football fields across the country, south Florida has more than done its part to make things safe and competitive for the athletes who have missed out on the exposure needed.
No matter what class they play in – or what college they have in mind, these athletes in south Florida continue to elevate their standing by competing pretty much year-round.
Having the pleasure of watching so many football prospects LIVE in game conditions, we have that opportunity to discover much more than the athletes that are hyped and pushed out by every recruiting service and fan website.
Anyone can watch a film and be an “expert”, but very few can make the effort to promote prospects nobody sees or talks about by watching them play.

SCOUTING: For the past two years, when talking about the receiver position in south Florida, there were a number of names that were talked about – for different reasons.
In that conversation, the name Devaughn Mortimer came up – and while a major portion of south Florida had never watched him perform live – his reputation certainly was tough to ignore.
When those recruiting “experts” finally had the opportunity to watch him perform, there was never a doubt. Here is someone who not only could beat you with his blazing speed, but his athletic ability and skill level stood out as soon as you watched him.
At a time when competition is something that you experience throughout the year in this region of the country, his name quickly spread and colleges noticed something that those who have followed this impressive talent for years have known all along.
In addition to what this all-around student/athlete does on the football field, which has brought college coaches from throughout the country, his work in the classroom has been nothing less than superior. From a 3.0 GPA, this young man brought his grades all the way up to an amazing 4.0, raising the bar in the classroom – and that is what makes Mortimer the total package – as one of the elite prospects nationally!

As we talk about defensive backs and receivers, running backs and now quarterbacks, there is another position that is starting to grab the spotlight in south Florida.
While churning out difference makers on the defensive line is new to this area, there are some that colleges across the country are watching as early as their first year in high school.
In some areas of the country – and even in the state of Florida - if you happen to play football for a smaller school, many scouts and recruiters seem to pay little attention.
Not that many haven’t been discovered or have defied the odds, but the new breed of scout gravitates toward larger programs, where the attention is.
