If you follow recruiting in south Florida, you already know that producing offensive linemen was never something that this region was known for.
But through the past few years, more and more attention has been paid to the “big boys” – and now as we approach the 2021 season – things have changed.
With talk from several “experts” on Sunday about the Under Armour South Florida Combine not being as talented as in the past, the opinions were met with laughter.
On a weekend when several of the top prospects were out of town, competing in a 7-on-7 tournament, the level of talent at Ives Park in North Miami Dade County was still loaded with elite athletes, who every major college in America is looking at – or has offered.
The 2021 Under Armour All-America Camp Series got underway at Ives Estates Park in Miami on Sunday, where nearly 200 of the best high school football players in the region had the opportunity to hone their on-field skills and earn a coveted bid to the 2022 Under Armour All-America Game. The invite-only camp series will visit five more locations nationwide, concluding May 2 in Baltimore. A complete roster of Sunday’s camp attendees can be found on the attached PDF.
Every year, south Florida produces some of the top wrestlers in the state – bringing home a number of individual titles.
While the individual championships are fine – south Florida will bring 114 competitors – this year it could be all about the team titles – as all three classes will have plenty of gifted programs when wrestling opens Friday morning (10:00) at the Silver Spurs Arena in Kissimmee.
Ask anyone who follows high school football which programs have the best offensive lines each year, and you will get a number of different answers.
As those answers file in – you will see one program that is on every list – and for good reason. The Miami Central Rockets have been successful for a number of reasons throughout the years. Great coaching, outstanding quarterbacks, running backs, receivers and defensive stars everywhere. But the one place that is exclusive for talent each and every season is the offensive line, and head coach Roland Smith will tell you that every time.
