MIAMI-DADE/BROWARD: Let The Playoffs Begin

The is set and the reality of playing for a state championship will move closer every week.

Welcome to the post season – where the stakes are higher than most have ever experienced, and while there are indeed favorites in all classes in south Florida, there are programs looking to shock the world.

Play gets under way this weekend and here is this week’s Top 20 plus rankings for Miami-Dade and Broward County:

1.Miami Central (2M, 9-0). THIS WEEK: No. 8 Miami St. Brendan (7-3) as a No. 1 seed in the first round of the state playoffs on Friday at Traz Powell Stadium (7:30). NEXT GAME: The winner of No. 4 seed Miami Northwestern or No. 5 seed Miami Gulliver Prep. LAST WEEK: The Rockets were off for the final week of the regular season.

2. Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna (1M, 8-0). NEXT WEEK: No. 4 seed Hollywood Avant Garde in the opening round of the state playoffs as a No. 1 seed on Friday night, Nov. 17 in Hollywood at 7:30. NEXT GAME: The winner of the No. 2 seed West Palm Beach Cardinal Newman and No. 3 seed North Palm Beach Benjamin game on Nov. 24. LAST WEEK: The Lions ended the season with a convincing 45-6 win against Port St. Lucie Treasure Coast.

3. Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas (3M, 9-0). THIS WEEK: No. 8 seed Coconut Creek in the opening round of the state playoffs as a No. 1 seed on Friday night (7:30) in Fort Lauderdale. NEXT GAME: The winner of No. 4 seed Delray American Heritage and No. 5 seed Plantation. LAST WEEK: The Raiders took the final week of the regular season off.

4. Plantation American Heritage (2M, 9-1). THIS WEEK: No. 8 Riviera Beach Inlet Grove in the opening round of the state playoffs as a No. 1 seed on Friday night (7:30 at home. NEXT GAME: The winner of No. 4 seed Boynton Beach and No. 5 seed West Palm Beach The King’s Academy. LAST WEEK: The Patriots were off for the final week of the season.

5. Miami Christopher Columbus (4M, 9-1). THIS WEEK: The No. 1 seed will play host to No. 8 seed Miami High in the first round of the state playoff on Friday night (7:30) at the school. NEXT GAME: The winner of No. 4 seed Miami Palmetto or o. 5 seed Pembroke Pines West Broward. LAST WEEK: The Explorers enjoyed the final week of the regular season off.

6. Fort Lauderdale Cardinal Gibbons (2M, 9-1). THIS WEEK: The No. 2 seed will have the first week of the state playoffs at home against No. 7 Fort Lauderdale Pine Crest on Friday night (7:30) at home.  NEXT GAME: The winner of No. 3 Fort Lauderdale Calvary Christian and No. 6 Boca Raton St. Andrew’s. LAST WEEK: The two-time defending state champions had the final week of the season off.

7. Miramar (3M, 8-1). THIS WEEK: As the No. 2 seed, it will be a home game and a rematch with No. 7 Pembroke Pines Charter on Friday night (7:30) at home. NEXT GAME: The winner will play either No. 3 Miami Southridge or No. 6 Hollywood South Broward. LAST WEEK: The Patriots took it to Hollywood South Broward, 55-7.

8. Pompano Beach Blanche Ely (3M, 9-0). THIS WEEK: As a No. 3 seed, it will be a home game with No. 6 Palm Beach Gardens Dwyer. NEXT GAME: The winner will get No. 2 Fort Lauderdale Dillard or No. 7 Fort Lauderdale. LAST WEEK: The Tigers finished unbeaten with a game-shortened 9-7 win against rival Fort Lauderdale Dillard.  

9. Miami Booker T. Washington (2M –8-2). THIS WEEK: As a No. 2 seed, there will be a home game against No. 7 Miami Carol City on Thursday at Traz Powell Stadium at 7:00. NEXT GAME: The winner will play either No. 4 Miami Northwestern or No. 5 Miami Gulliver Prep. LAST WEEK: The Tornadoes took the final week of the season off.

10. Miami Norland (2M – 7-2). THIS WEEK: As a No. 3 seed, the opening round of the state playoffs will see this team at home against No. 6 Miami Jackson on Friday night (3:30) at Traz Powell Stadium. NEXT GAME: The winner will get either No. 2 Miami Booker T. Washington or No. 7 Miami Carol City. LAST WEEK: The Vikings ended an impressive regular season with a 42-12 win against Miami Killian.

11. Homestead (3M, 8-2). THIS WEEK: As a No. 1 seed, there will a surprising Saturday afternoon (2:00) away game against No. 8 North Miami at Traz Powell Stadium. NEXT GAME: State Playoffs Next Week. LAST WEEK: The Broncos took the final week of the 2022 regular season off.

12. Coconut Creek Monarch (4M, 8-2). THIS WEEK: With a No. 2 seed in hand, a home rematch against No. 7 Boca Raton. NEXT GAME: The winner gets either No. 3 Palm Beach Gardens or No. 6 Wellington. LAST WEEK: The Knights ended the regular season with a rare win against Deerfield Beach, 18-7.

13. Fort Lauderdale Calvary Christian (2M, 8-2). THIS WEEK: A home game in the opening round of the state playoffs as a No. 3 seed against No. 6 Boca Raton St. Andrew’s on Friday night (7:30) in Fort Lauderdale. NEXT GAME: The winner will get either No. 2 Fort Lauderdale Cardinal Gibbons or No. 7 Fort Lauderdale Pine Crest. LAST WEEK: The Eagles enjoyed the final week of the regular season off.

14. Davie Western (4M – 6-3). THIS WEEK: The state playoffs start for the No. 2 seed with a rematch with No. 7 Weston Cypress Bay on Friday night (7:30) in Davie. NEXT GAME: The winner gets either No. 3 Doral Academy or No. 6 Pembroke Pines Somerset Academy. LAST WEEK: The Wildcats finished off the regular season on a high note, 49-22.

15. Miami Northwestern (2M – 5-4). THIS WEEK: The No. 4 seed will be at home against No. 5 Miami Gulliver Prep at Traz Powell Stadium Saturday at 6:00. NEXT GAME: The winner will either have No. 1 Miami Central or No. 8 Miami St. Brendan. LAST WEEK: The Bulls took the final regular season week off.

16. Miami Jackson (2M, 7-3). THIS WEEK: As a No. 6 seed they will be on the road against No. 3 Miami Norland on Friday at 3:30. NEXT GAME: The winner will get either No. 2 Miami Booker T. Washington or No. 7 Miami Carol City. LAST WEEK: The Generals return to the playoffs with a season-ending 46-0 win over Miami High.

17. Fort Lauderdale Dillard (3M – 6-4). THIS WEEK:  The No. 2 seed will be at home for a rematch against No. 7 Fort Lauderdale on Friday night at 7:30. NEXT GAME: The winner gets either No. 3 Pompano Beach Blanche Ely or No. 6 Palm Beach Gardens Dwyer. LAST WEEK: The Panthers lost a game-shortened contest to rival Blanche Ely in the Broward Soul Bowl, 9-7.

18. Parkland Douglas (7-3, 4M). THIS WEEK: A road game as a No. 5 seed at No. 4 Lantana Santalucesat 7:30 on Friday. NEXT GAME: The winner of this contest will either get No. 1 Wellington Palm Beach Central or No. 8 Jupiter. LAST WEEK: The Eagles won for the 5th straight week, 42-7, over Coral Springs Coral Glades.

19. Plantation (3M – 7-3). THIS WEEK: It’s on the road for No. 5 as they travel to play No. 4 Delray Beach Atlantic on Friday night (7:30). NEXT GAME: The winner gets either No. 1 Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas or No. 8 Coconut Creek. LAST WEEK: The Colonels dropped the regular season finale, 49-22.

20. Hollywood Avant Garde (1M, 6-3). NEXT WEEK: As a No. 4, the Sharks get another shot at No. 1 Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna Friday at 7:30, Nov. 17. FOLLOWING WEEK: The winner gets either No. 1 West Palm Beach Cardinal Newman or No. 3 North Palm Beach Benjamin on Nov. 24. LAST WEEK: The regular season didn’t end the way they way they had planned – losing to Miami Monsignor Pace, 34-28.
