MIAMI-DADE/BROWARD: Games Get Tougher Over The Next Two Weeks

 While all of the Greater Miami Athletic Conference teams will take part in the GMAC Week contests, each and every matchup will go a long way in determining playoff seeding.

With just two weeks left in the regular season, there are still some playoff spots up for grabs, and we will see some dreams fulfilled – while others will fall short.

With the season flying by quickly, programs will have to bring their “A” game the next two plus weeks.

As we head toward Week 9, here is a look at how programs are doing in this region:

1. Miami Central (2M – 7-0). THIS WEEK: It’s GMAC Week and the Rockets will play No. 4 Miami Christopher Columbus on Oct. 21. NEXT GAME: A regular season-ending game at home against Miami Monsignor Pace on Oct. 28. LAST WEEK: The Rockets took care of Miami Norland in a district game, 53-7.

2. Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna (1M – 6-0). THIS WEEK: A home district game Friday against No. 15 Hollywood Avant Garde Academy. NEXT GAME:  A home district game on Oct. 27 against Boca Raton Saint John Paul II. LAST WEEK: The Lions scored early and often in their first game in two weeks against Deerfield Beach Somerset Key, 90-0.

3. Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas (3M – 7-0). THIS WEEK: A home game against a much-improved No. 9 Coconut Creek Monarch on Oct. 21. NEXT GAME: The regular season comes to an end on the road against Lauderdale Lakes Boyd Anderson on Oct. 28. LAST WEEK: The Raiders started slow but then put it all together in a 49-13 district game against Fort Lauderdale.

4. Miami Christopher Columbus (4M, 8-0). THIS WEEK: It’s GMAC Week and the Explorers will face off with No. 1 Miami Central. NEXT GAME: The regular season comes to an end with a non-district home game against Hialeah Barbara Goleman on Oct. 28. LAST WEEK: The Explorers wrapped up the district title with a 35-7 win against Doral Academy.

5. Plantation American Heritage (2M, 7-1). THIS WEEK: A trip to Naples to play the Golden Eagles on Oct. 21. NEXT GAME: The regular season comes to an end at home on Oct. 28 against Hallandale. LAST WEEK: The Patriots all but wrapped up the district title with a 24-0 win against Fort Lauderdale Stranahan.

6. Fort Lauderdale Cardinal Gibbons (2M, 7-1). THIS WEEK: A Friday trip to the west coast to play Bradenton Manatee on Oct. 21. NEXT GAME: The regular season comes to an end with a home district game against Fort Lauderdale Stranahan on Oct. 28. LAST WEEK: The Chiefs rolled to a district road win against Hallandale, 49-6.

7. Miramar (3M, 4-1). THIS WEEK: An away game against No. 12 Davie Western on Oct. 21. NEXT GAME: A Friday away district game against Miramar Everglades on Oct. 28. LAST WEEK: The Patriots rolled to a 47-7 win against Hialeah American in The “Patriots Bowl”.

8. Pompano Beach Blanche Ely (3M, 6-0). THIS WEEK: An away game on Thursday, Oct. 20 against Sunrise Piper. NEXT GAME: A home district game on Oct. 28 against West Boca Raton. LAST WEEK: The Tigers used an outstanding defense and timely offense to beat Deerfield Beach, 7-0.

9. Coconut Creek Monarch (4M, 6-1). THIS WEEK: An Oct. 21 game at No. 3 Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas. NEXT GAME: An away district game against Coral Springs on Oct. 28. LAST WEEK: The Knights had the week off.

10. Fort Lauderdale Calvary Christian (2M, 7-1). THIS WEEK: A home contest on Oct. 21 against North Palm Beach Benjamin. NEXT GAME: The regular season comes to an end with an Oct. 28 road game against Oakland Park Northeast. LAST WEEK: The Eagles won for the sixth straight time – at home against Coconut Creek North Broward Prep, 42-14.

11. Davie Western (4M – 4-2). THIS WEEK: A home game against No. 9 Miramar on Oct. 21.  NEXT GAME: A Friday night trip to Coral Springs to play Coral Glades on Oct. 28. LAST WEEK: The Wildcats bounced back with a big district win at home against Weston Cypress Bay, 36-20.

12. Miami Northwestern (2M – 4-3). THIS WEEK: It’s GMAC Week and a meeting with No. 18 Homestead on Oct. 20. NEXT GAME:  The regular season comes to an end with a district game against Miami Immaculata LaSalle on Saturday, Oct. 29. LAST WEEK: The Bulls ended their two-game losing streak with a convincing 26-7 win over No. 15 Miami Booker T. Washington.

13. Fort Lauderdale Dillard (3M – 3-3). THIS WEEK:  A Saturday night home district game against Fort Lauderdale. NEXT GAME: It’s back on the road for a trip to Tallahassee Lincoln on Oct. 28. LAST WEEK: The Panthers bounced back from the loss to No. 3 Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas with a convincing 42-6 win against No. 16 Plantation.

14. Miami Booker T. Washington (2M – 6-2). THIS WEEK: It’s GMAC Week and a contest against Miami Southridge on Oct. 21. NEXT GAME: The regular season comes to an end with a Saturday road game against Westland Hialeah. LAST WEEK: The Tornadoes saw their four-game winning streak snapped against No. 12 Miami Northwestern, 26-7.

15. Hollywood Avant Garde (1M, 5-1). THIS WEEK: A tall task awaits on Oct. 21 in a district game at No. 2 Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna. NEXT GAME: A Thursday home game against North Lauderdale Somerset Prep on Oct. 27. LAST WEEK: The Sharks put it all together in a 69-0 win against West Palm Beach Sports Leadership & Management.

16. Plantation (3M – 4-1). THIS WEEK: A Thursday home game against Deerfield Beach on Oct. 20 and a Monday (Oct. 24) contest against rival and No. 19 on Monday, Oct. 24. NEXT GAME: A Friday district game on the road against Sunrise Piper on Oct. 28. LAST WEEK: The Colonels dropped a 42-6 decision to No. 14 Fort Lauderdale Dillard.

17. Miami Norland (2M – 4-2). THIS WEEK: It’s GMAC Week and a trip to play Miami Palmetto on Thursday, Oct. 20. NEXT GAME: A Thursday home district game on Oct. 27 against North Miami Beach. LAST WEEK: The Vikings dropped their second straight game, 53-7, to No. 1 Miami Central.

18. Homestead (3M, 6-2). THIS WEEK: It’s a GMAC Week contest with No. 11 Miami Northwestern on Oct. 20. NEXT GAME: The regular season comes to an end with and Oct. 28 home game against Miami Belen Jesuit. WEEK: The Broncos lost their second consecutive game, 20-8, to Miami Southridge.

19. South Plantation (3M, 5-1). THIS WEEK: It will be a busy week with two games - an Oct. 21 game at home against Miramar Everglades and a rivalry on the road against No. 16 Plantation on Monday, Oct. 24. NEXT GAME: A Friday home game against Davie Nova on Oct. 28. LAST WEEK: The Paladins bounced back with a 41-13 win against Pompano Beach.

20. Coconut Creek (3M – 4-3). THIS WEEK: A home game on Friday against Hollywood McArthur. NEXT GAME: An away non-district matchup with Deerfield Beach on Oct. 28. LAST WEEK: The Cougars jumped back in the Top 20 with a convincing 50-0 road win at West Boca Raton.
