McArthur Looks To Return To Being More Consistent

THE MUSTANGS FILE

Head Coach: Kevin Burnett

2021 Record: 3-6

THE SCOOP

Even though this team got off to a 2-0 start last year, with wins against Pompano Beach Blanche Ely (18-13) and Lauderdale Lake Boyd Anderson (9-8), this coaching staff realizes that the job is an ongoing process.

Just five years ago, this was one of the marquee teams in south Florida, winning a district. It is also a program that has enjoyed so much success throughout the years.

While prospects continue to buy into what is going on, the spring and summer have paved the way for the 2022 season.

No matter where you look during this off-season, players are attending events and team camps – all in the name of turning the corner.

Instead of paying attention to a win over Miramar Everglades (24-0), Coach Burnett and his staff are more concerned about being more consistently and returning this team to what it has been in the past.

Here is a look at some of the prospects to keep an eye on this coming season:

Quarterbacks Take Center Stage In south Florida

Because we get to watch as many prospects in south Florida live as anyone throughout the course of a year, there is more of an opportunity to discover prospects that many get a chance to see.

While the marquee players are always in the spotlight – whether it’s games, practices, camps, combines and 7-on-7 events, there is a large group that never gets the spotlight they deserve.

Over the past five plus decades, we have had the opportunity to watch, evaluate and track all levels of quarterback, it is wise to understand that a very small percentage of these young men really have the opportunity to compete at a major college. That’s why hundreds of colleges and universities across the country read our prospect information that includes EVERYONE. It’s a reputation that we are indeed proud about.

Anyone can tall about a star-rated athlete, but what about those athletes who will play at the D2, D3, NAIA or Junior College level? There are 30 times as many of those athletes than the ones being covered by every recruiting service, fan website and media agency.

Today, we take a look at some of the south Florida quarterbacks to keep an eye on – in all classes.

GETTING THE SPOTLIGHT

As we said, there is a group of football talent that has gone more attention than others – and as we know – that can change in the coming months.

Here is a look at some of those football players who are heavily on the radar as we get ready to start the 2022 season:

The Class is definitely up to bat this season – as many we have watched the past three-four years will get the opportunity to continue to showcase their skills.

Leading the way are potential record-setters Taron Dickens (Miami Northwestern) and Collin Hurst (Davie Western), who both have the opportunity to put their respective names down as the best to play the position in Miami-Dade and Broward respectively.

In addition, the Miami Central duo of Keyone Jenkins and Dylan Tulloch have shown that they can play at the highest level and come out on top.

The class also features UCF-bound Dylan Rizk (Fort Lauderdale Cardinal Gibbons), gifted Miami Edison transfer Hezekiah Harris (Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas), Blake Murphy (Plantation American Heritage) – injured last year – and someone who never gets the recognition but may be the best athlete of the 2023 group, Mahki Rolle from North Miami Beach.

Like the group in 2023, the Class of 2024 looks to be quite impressive – with C.J. Bailey (Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna), A.J. Hairston (Coconut Creek Monarch) and Monsignor Pace transfer Adrian Posse (Miami Christopher Columbus).

Also, prospects such as Alberto Mendoza (Miami Christopher Columbus), Michael Merdinger (Fort Lauderdale Cardinal Gibbons) and J.T. Tabora, who led the way for Hollywood Avant Garde Academy.

The future – as we know is truly bright – as Class of 2025 standout Ennio Yapoor, who led Hialeah Champagnat Catholic to the 2A state finals last year, is now at Miami Norland.

WAIT – THERE ARE MORE STARS ON THE WAY

Just because so many are not on the radar of the recruiting services or colleges across the nation, it certainly does not matter there arem’t promising football talent out there. Please keep an eye on these young men as well. You will not be sorry:

Miami Booker T. Washington Is Back On The Map

THE TORNADOES FILE

Head Coach: Tim “Ice” Harris

2021 Record: 5-7

THE SCOOP

There are very few high school football programs in the country where you can see change in a matter of months like what happened to this team this spring and summer.

The return of the legend Coach Tim “Ice” Harris Sr. was behind the transformation of a school that has been in its share of the national spotlight through the years.

Big time football talent and solid coaching has always followed this program, and with the return of Harris, who was the head coach at Florida Memorial University, you could feel the electricity this spring as players and coaches alike turned up the volume in Overtown once again.

In what turned out to be a tremendous month of June, the Tornadoes used the spark that this team had during late April and into May as they look to get back in not only the state championship picture, but the national conversation as well.

What this spring and summer has done was give this program a chance to rebuild the roster, and they certainly have added some pieces – while others have matured and grown up. Here is a look at some of those prospects to keep an eye on in 2022:

Coral Gables Relying On Some New Faces In 2022

THE CAVALIERS FILE

Head Coach: Frank Welsh

2021 Record: 1-6

THE SCOOP

Once again, the 2021 season was a season where this program looked to build for the future – and while there were some losses that hurt – this is a proud program that continues to fight the fight.

With a win over Miami Coral Park, several prospects - young and veteran – had the chance to feel exactly what it’s like to be on the plus side of things.

But while the losses stung and humbled many prospects, veteran head coach Frank Welsh truly believes that this team is ready to start turning the corner, and with a few additions and the return of more mature players, he just may be on to something.

With a productive spring in the books and a summer that has watched several prospects attend camps and other events, this is a program that may pull a few surprises in 2022.

While the 2021 season proved to be up and down, there were a few things that sent this team into the off-season feeling positive.

Even though they lost to Somerset Homestead South (14-7), Miami Ransom Everglades (27-24), Somerset Academy Silver Palms (24-0), impressive Miami Florida Christian (14-0) and Miami Palmer Trinity Prep (26-23), there was indeed reason to be very optimistic.

There were victories over Tavernier Coral Shores (13-7), Marathon (49-0) – and season-ending wins against Miami Braddock (28-22) and Fort Lauderdale Westminster Academy (30-7).
