While there are still some schools who opt to play an easier schedule, 6A Coconut Creek Monarch and 1A power Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna are not among them.
But of these south Florida football teams have elevated their schedules through the years and have found that the results have been positive.
These two programs will clash this evening (7:00) in Hollywood and have earned the right to be the Game of the Week.
For the 3-2 Knights, rated No. 7 in south Florida, and veteran head coach Calvin Davis, the objective all along is to be competitive in a classification that is loaded from north Florida right through to Miami-Dade and Broward Counties.
By opening against 2A powerhouse Jacksonville Bolles in the Broward County National Football Showcase to games at Don Bosco Prep in New Jersey and Sanford Seminole, Fl. have certainly gotten this team ready for the stretch run that starts tonight against the 4-1 Lions.
For veteran head coach Dameon Jones and his No. 4 team, winning the state title is indeed a priority every year – and despite losing to national powerhouse St. Frances Academy of Baltimore – they have sharpened themselves for a ninth straight trip to the state title game.
Like Monarch this program has been tested already, and with the Knights and games against Fort Lauderdale Cardinal Gibbons and nationally rated Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas there is still work to be done.

While Miami True North Classical Academy has been building this program for much of the past decade (seven years), this off-season may have been the most important time for this team and the future.
No matter where it was during the spring and summer, head coach Greg Laffere (a former University of Miami standout) and his staff took this team to colleges and universities to showcase a growing group of student/athletes that continued to add prospects and become a force among 1A schools.
Events at University of Florida, University of South Florida, Florida Atlantic University and many other schools has given this football team, coaches and players a chance to improve and gain the exposure needed.
The program which was started back in 2019 had certainly evolved through the years, compiling a 34-16 record – 17-7 over the past two seasons.
What the No. 18 Titans have done is not only build a program that would field a team in a competitive 1A class that has been dominated by national power Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna but add enough quality talent to compete and make a run in the district and region.
While the season started off with losses to state powers Sarasota Cardinal Mooney and Fort Myers Bishop Verot, things have turned around as they get set to host longtime power Jacksonville University Christian this evening (7:00) at Tropical Park.
Here is a look at some of players who have helped to put the Titans on the map:

Once again on Wednesday night the South Florida High School Sports Radio Show took center stage with seven impressive guests.
Each and every week, the FM 104.3 WQAM radio program attracts the newsmakers in high school sports, recruiting college sports – not only locally, but throughout the country.
The show gives listeners an opportunity to hear about college football programs statewide from the media that cover them. It also focuses on the coaches who use the state of Florida – Miami-Dade and Broward Counties in particular.
The show, which has run for nearly two decades, has become a popular listen for recruiting fans as well as high school sports purists, focusing on coaches and players in all sports.
Here is a look at the way Wednesday went:
On December 20th at Traz Powell Stadium in Miami, the Crib Classic Miami-Dade vs. Broward high school all-star football game along with the 8th grade all-star contest and other events will unfold for the second straight year and Jose Duasso talked about.

Moments before last Saturday night’s district championship game against North Miami at Milander Stadium in Hialeah, Mater Academy first year head coach Tim “Ice” Harris was in no mood for small talk.
One of the best coaches the state of Florida has produced through the years, his departure from Miami Booker T. Washington during the off-season made news throughout the state and in many areas of the country.
Harris is indeed all football. Anything his name is on or associated with you can guarantee that it will be first class and all about hard work.
When many questioned his move from the longtime powerhouse in Overtown to head to a charter school in Hialeah Gardens, they had no idea what this man is all about.
The father of two highly successful college football coaches simply brought his loyal staff with him and grabbed a few players that had long bought into his winning system and headed to the suburbs.
You could tell during the spring that he meant business and those who have been around him understood that he expected to win right away – and he has.
Heading into an off week, the Lions are 6-0 and have captured the district title. But they are far from finished – and if you have been around Coach Harris and his coaches for any length of time – they are not just looking to win locally, but embrace the big picture – even if it’s six-time defending state champion Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas, Lakeland, Delray Beach Atlantic, Tampa Gaither or an Orlando Edgewater team that has outscored their opponents, 284-38.
Like he has at any high school or college that he has been at during his career, Coach Harris has gotten everyone involved, and with an administration and student body that is all in, the sky is definitely the limit!
Year one has indeed produced some quality talent – and here are just a few of them:

Believe it or not, we have arrived at Week 7 – and while weather has pretty much dictated the first half of the season, we are now in Fall and are looking for change.
Surrounding that change in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties will be plenty of competition as teams are now looking toward the state playoffs in the second week of November.
While there are makeup games being played along with the regular schedule, this promises to be a very competitive month of October.
Week 7 will see more separation with key district matchups that will tell the story. In addition, there are some non-district contests that will certainly play a role in which teams will take part in the state playoffs and those who will be looking toward 2026.
Either way, the games will be played and this is how the Top 20 teams stack up this week:
1 Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas (5A, 4-1). The Raiders were off this past week. THIS WEEK: Back to district play with a home game against Hollywood Hills. NEXT WEEK: Bye.
2. Miami Northwestern (3A, 4-1). The Bulls gained a forfeit in their annual “Soul Bowl” against Miami Jack. THIS WEEK: 10/4 - @ No. 3 Miami Central. NEXT WEEK: 10/11 - Key West.

5. Miami Southridge (6A, 5-0). The Spartans continued to impress with a 59-18 win against Homestead. rolled to their fourth straight win, beating Doral Academy, 42-7. THIS WEEK: 10/3 – Miami Edison. NEXT WEEK: 10/6 – Complete No. 15 Miami Christopher Columbus game. 10/10 – Southwest Miami.
6. Fort Lauderdale Dillard (4A, 6-0). The Panthers hit 60 for the third time this year in a 65-0 district win against Riviera Beach Suncoast. THIS WEEK: 10/4 - Pompano Beach Blanche Ely. NEXT WEEK: 10/10 - @Lake Worth Dr. Joaquin Garcia.
7. Hialeah Gardens Mater Academy (5A, 6-0). The Lions continued to be the talk of south Florida by capturing the district title with a 35-14 win over North Miami. THIS WEEK: Bye. NEXT WEEK: 10/11 – Pembroke Pines Charter.
