When veteran head football coach Tim “Ice” Harris and his Hialeah Gardens Mater Academy Lions host Miramar Everglades tonight (7:00) at Milander Stadium, this will be a key game for this program.
After starting the season out with a big win over Hialeah, Mater Academy has dropped successive non-district games to Miami Palmetto to drop to 1-2.
The game against Everglades (2-1) is a District 16-5A contest that this program will need if they have plans to make the post season.
The team has been led so far by seniors (2027) Jahmari Johnson (WR), Lerone Yarber (RB) and Rahdel Jean-Baptiste (RB).
The Lions have also received contributions from junior (2028) John Rhoden (WR), and sophomores (2029) Aiden Gonzalez (WR), Antonio Talton (WR), Othneil Rhoden Jr. (QB) and nationally-rated linebacker Victor Latimore.
This young team has also been relying on freshmen (2030) playmakers Jaren Martinez (LB) and Janari Williams (QB), and eighth-grade (2031) defensive end Dexter Morgan.
