The five games that the Piper Bengals played in 2020 gave head coach Cedric Alexander and his staff a glimpse into the future – and that small sample was indeed something to be happy about.
Beating Nova and battling Cooper City, Hallandale and West Broward for all four quarters, this is a program that once again has the talent to compete – and build for that future.
What Alexander and his staff have done is build this program from the ground up, and after a beneficial season during a pandemic, this spring has been all about putting the right pieces in place.
With several outstanding rising seniors (2022) working hard and elevating their game, the Bengals are ready for more learning and experience this coming summer and into the 2021 season.
Among those players to keep an eye on are Joseph Brown (DB, 5-10, 170), Mackenzie Exantus (LB, 5-11, 215), Mark Henry (OL/DL, 5-11, 260), Daniel Johnson (RB, 5-8, 170) and impressive athlete Anthony Scott. This is a group that will provide what this program needs to have a promising future.
In addition, other 2022 prospects to watch includes Shawn Bayliss (RB, 5-7, 160), Kenrick Cherrelus (OL/LB, 5-9, 215), Melvyn Creebsburg (DL, 6-2, 215), Jaden Highsmith (QB, 5-8, 165), Bob Ining (WR/DB, 5-10, 180) and defensive lineman Frantz Joly (5-9, 190).
Piper also will feature Cammem Jordan (WR/DB, 6-4, 180), Ernts Pierre-louis (QB, 5-11, 180), Konelan Marshall (DB, 5-9, 170), and defensive backs Peguy Mompremier (5-10, 160) and Vernon Smith (5-9, 170).
COUNTING ON THE CLASS OF 2023
Like the rising senior class, this rising group of juniors (2023) will also be something that this coaching staff have been waiting to see perform after a solid off-season. Prospects such as Joseph Aquino (DL/OL, 6-3, 210), Eddrick Arnold (LB/TE, 6-2, 200), Dontae Gentles (QB, 5-9, 165) and versatile Chileme Timane (LB/OL, 5-8, 180) have looked very good this off-season and will continue to emerge.
The Class of 2023 will also have Jakari Hallmon (DL/OL, 5-11, 215), Jorden Henry (S, 5-7, 150), Jhatwaine Johas (WR, 5-7, 150), Jelani Lebert (DL/OL, 6-1, 200), Bradley Luctama (DL/OL, 6-0, 215), Prince Palasios (WR, 5-6, 145) and safety David Permenter (5-6, 160).
If you want to make Alexander smile, talk about his rising sophomores (Class of 2024) prospects.
Players like running back Malik Kesley (5-11, 180), Martaz Charles (OL/DL, 6-2, 280), Mark Henry (OL/DL, 6-3, 288) and defensive back Sean Watkins (5-9, 160) are as good as you get – and all are among those leaders who will continue to keep this program in the spotlight.
Add in fellow 2024 prospects such as Malachi Blair (DB, 6-3, 160), Calvin Foulds (OL/DL, 5-9, 200), Dillan Lewis (OL/DL, 5-10, 195), Kaled Mendez (OL/DL, 5-11, 230), Marcus Senchus (DT, 5-11, 200), and receivers Decedric Stokes, Jacob Toutoute (5-9, 150) and Nathan Trinidad (5-5, 140), and you have a lot of promise.
