Gulliver Opens Up Season Tonight At Belen Jesuit

Since that heart-breaking loss to Miami Booker T. Washington last November, Miami Gulliver Prep has been hungry to get back on the field.

With a chance to get to the state championship game last year and come so close, head coach Earl Sims and this football team have a purpose in 2020 – and while the pandemic delayed the start, it will be tough to deny the No. 1 seed in 4A from a year ago, the chance to battle Cardinal Gibbons, St. Petersburg Lakewood and Cocoa to get to the title game in December.

This is a loaded team – with returnees and new faces throughout the field, and while this is their first game, tonight’s (7:00) contest will be used as a measuring stick for a program that is easily one of the best in Florida.

For first year head coach Don Chaney Sr. and his Wolverines, an impressive shutout win last week against Archbishop McCarthy was the perfect way to usher in a new era of Belen Jesuit football.

While there are a few experienced veterans on the team, it’s all about plenty of new faces – freshmen and sophomores who already stepped up in game 1.

It’s the Raiders and Wolverines in a matchup that was one-sided a year ago, and the home team has its work cut out against a program that has state championship on their collective minds.
