Once again, south Florida has become a hotbed for under the radar talent that many analysts and recruiting services have not had the chance to watch and explore.
Go to any school in Miami-Dade or Broward County and you will find football talent that will have you shaking your head in amazement at why they haven’t been heavily recruited.
Because there are a number of high school coaches who do not prescribe to sending their athletes to every event where they are exposed, there are dozens of football prospects that analysts have no clue about, often finding out when they are told about or stumble across them in a game or a spring practice.
As many find it hard to believe that a major prospect could be hidden away, believe it, they are. There are several football players who are competing in the NFL that weren’t discovered until their final season in high school – or as college freshmen who were completely bypassed.
The fault is not the scout who often misses talented prospects, it’s just something about south Florida, where high school coaches have a warranted trust issue with people “stealing” their athletes – and if you know this area of the country – it’s something that you can fully understand.
PLAYER: Jason Seraphin
SCHOOL: North Miami Beach
SCOUTING: Make no mistake about this quality talent, he is as good as you will find in the class – and hopefully – this will be the year that head coach Jeff Bertani and his coaches will no longer be able to hide this young man who has been taught well – and continues to develop.
Watch him play and you will see someone who is athletic, has great feet, is a quick learner and will emerge as one of the best linemen in south Florida, regardless of what anyone says.
Watching him perform since the day he stepped foot on the field, his maturity, his talent level and athletic ability are as good as you get – no matter where you stick him.
Remember, if you play for this playoff program, you are more than just a football player. You are a contributor who will get it done on both sides of the ball, and on special teams if asked – and that is not likely to change in his final two seasons.
