In some areas of the country – and even in the state of Florida - if you happen to play football for a smaller school, many scouts and recruiters seem to pay little attention.
Not that many haven’t been discovered or have defied the odds, but the new breed of scout gravitates toward larger programs, where the attention is.
In south Florida, it has never mattered what level you play for, and it happens every single year where smaller school prospects step up and grab attention, and often times end up much better than those in larger programs.
With schools such as Pahokee (1A), Champagnat Catholic (2A) and three-time defending state 3A champion Chaminade-Madonna sending players on to the next level and beyond, college coaches seek out talent and not the size of the school. Good thing for that.
JANVIER PROFILE
PLAYER: Gregory Janvier
POSITION: WR/CB
SCHOOL: Fort Lauderdale Calvary Christian Academy
CLASS: 2021
HEIGHT: 6-1
WEIGHT: 180
SCOUTING: When you to talk Calvary Christian Academy, you are looking at a head coach (Kirk Hoza) who has been at the highest level, coaching in college and developing numerous prospects along the way.
When you compete for the Eagles, there is so much to learn, and while being at a 3A school may lack the numbers, it certainly does not minimize the talent. In fact, playing at a smaller program will only enhance a football prospect – giving them a chance to perform on both sides of the ball as well as on special teams.
The No. 1 seed in the region a year ago, this is a program that answered just about every wakeup call possible. In losing to 10-1 Gulliver Prep and Chaminade-Madonna, prospects like Janvier had the chance to elevate their game – and if you watch him in games, at camps and combines throughout the off season, you can fully understand why he is attracting college attention.
His speed from being involved with track, along with his football skills continues to give this quality football player an edge and direct the spotlight in his direction.
With the 2020 season on the horizon, here is yet another football talent that many across south Florida will start finding out about as he is ready for his final year at the high school level.
