There are many areas of this country, where former high school athletes come back and do a lot of good for their community. But at a time when everyone is looking for help, two former Broward County stars have more than stepped up.
One-time Sunrise Piper and Utah State standout Nevin Lawson and Coconut Creek and Clemson star Trayvon Mullen Jr. - both of the Las Vegas Raiders - have partnered with Chick-Fil-A to provide meals for the Emergency Room Covid 19 Response Teams in the four major hospitals.
For years and years, when college coaches headed south to recruit football talent, especially in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties, receivers and defensive backs were a huge priority.
Of course you had linebackers and defensive linemen along with running backs that would be heavily recruited by colleges all over the nation.
But when it came to looking at offensive linemen, there were just a handful that these schools had real interest in.
The running back position in south Florida has always been looked up to for all the impressive talent that the area has long produced.
Some of the elite backs have represented schools in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties for decades, and that’s exactly why college coaches have made this a major destination for amazing talent that comes out of this area like a free-flowing pipeline.
Back in the 1960’s and 70’s, there were some tremendous running backs who advanced to the collegiate level – and then on to the next level. That is something that continues to happen today.
