LOCAL REWIND – WEEK 8: Norland-Central Have Instant Classic

When Miami Central roared out to a 20-0 lead in the first half, NOBODY could have predicted the finish some two hours later,

If they were writing a Hollywood ending to this 2023 season, it was certainly enhanced when the Vikings came back and remained unbeaten with a 29-26 overtime victory against a Rocket team that has dominated the landscape of football in the state of Florida.

While the four-time defending state champions walked out of Traz Powell Stadium on Friday with a rare loss, you can almost guarantee that it only sets up a third-round state playoff game between these two impressive programs.

While head coach Daryle Heidelburg and his 7-0 Vikings could have folded up after the three-score deficit, but like the previous week against Miami Booker T. Washington, they found a way, and that way came via sophomore kicker Noah Sidan, who had problems converting extra points all night, booted the game winner.

Keep in mind, the Rockets have lost three games this season by a total of 10 points to the national No. 1 team Bishop Gorman, the No. 4 rated Chaminade-Madonna Lions and a Norland team that has been impressive. Between the three programs they are 20-0, so DO NOT COUNT OUT head coach Jube Joseph and his football team.

WAIT, THERE IS MORE

In addition to that thrilling game, there were other matchups that produced district championship performances – such as Coconut Creek’s 42-28 win over West Boca Raton, Davie Western wrapping up their district with a 56-0 win against Weston Cypress Bay, Hialeah bringing home a district crown with a 25-7 victory against North Miami, Homestead’s revenge win against Miami Southridge, 45-14.

Miami Booker T. Washington, who can win the district title tonight when they play Edison, moved one step closer, handing Miami Northwestern a 28-20 loss.

In a battle of unbeatens, Fort Lauderdale NSU University School took care of Fort Lauderdale Westminster Academy, 42-7.
