West Broward Leaves A Mark In Ohio On Summer Tour

Make no mistake – when it comes to summer football, south Florida high school teams are showcasing why this area is so special.

No matter where it is across the country, players and coaches are using this summer to promote and get exposure from college coaches who open their doors to prospects from all over.

Miami-Dade and Broward Counties have long been the centerpiece of so many college trips. The reputation of being among the best athletes in the nation, everyone wants to compete against football players from the Sunshine State.

As they travel to different colleges and universities to visit the schools, teams like West Broward take part in events such as 7-on-7 events.

Last weekend, head coach Brian McCartney and went to Toledo University, and when the day was over, brought home the title in the Rockets’ 7-on-7 events.

The Bobcats finished 7-1, winning the championship by beating Southview, 35-7.

West Broward beat Martin Luther King from Michigan in the tournament. They are back-to-back state champions.

Among the players stepping up in the tournament were J.J. Morillo, Nico Vazquez, Carlos Morales and Jayden Stephens.

Nationally rated receiver Josh Moore dazzled the coaches and players on hand as he came up with an amazing 19 touchdowns.

Other players making a huge contribution included Johnathon Lawson (15 TDs), Morillo (41 touchdowns), Kelvin Reyes (4 INT), Mathew Martindale, Vazquez, Jayden Stephens, Jermaine Vaughn and Carter Smith.

LINEMEN ALSO TURN HEADS

While the skill players were getting it done in the 7-on-7 event, the linemen were also leaving a mark.

The offensive line finished 5-1 in the competition as Josh Caso, Chaz Hall, Aston Ames, Tyler Goldberg, Alejando Schmitt and Joel Martin stepped up their game.

The defensive line finished a perfect 6-0 – with Luis Rojas, Max Taboada, Jason Garcia and Jayden Samuels getting the attention.
