When NSU University School and Fort Lauderdale Westminster Academy met a few weeks back as undefeated teams, it wasn’t for the Florida High School Athletic seeding in the state playoffs. The outcome of the contest meant much more to both schools.
What these two schools were playing for was a chance to win a state title in the Sunshine State Athletic Conference, which is an independent group of teams throughout Florida that awards programs for their play throughout the season.
That 42-7 win by the Sharks over the Lions gave the 8-0 program a chance for positive exposure – and an opportunity to play for a state title.
That race for a title begins tonight as both University School and Westminster Academy will start the season anew with first round SSAC games.
Westminster beat their opening rough opponent earlier this year, 34-10.
