Road To Tallahassee Continues Today In South Florida

A year ago, Homestead South Dade’s football program finished 2-7, were outscored 261-201 and failed to make the state playoffs.

The Bucs, who routinely found themselves in the playoff mix each season, had sunk to the bottom – and that didn’t go over well with fans, players, and longtime supporters.

Enter Chris Reid. Someone who knew this program, the community and what it took to get back to where this proud program has been for decades.

From the very beginning, Reid made it clear that South Dade would once again have that football team that everyone could be proud of.

Tonight, the turnaround continues when the 7-3 Bucs travel to Broward County to play district champion West Broward at Flanagan High in Pembroke Pines.

The contest will not only spotlight Reid and his team, but also the Bobcats and head coach Brian McCartney, who have now established this team as one to watch each season.

After losing to Miami Palmetto in the first round of the state playoffs a year ago, this is a team that went right after it during the off-season.

Coach McCartney took this team to colleges and universities all over to give them competition and exposure. It has paid off. After losing the first two games of the season, they reeled off a 7-1 record, losing only to state-rated Daytona Beach Mainland on the road.

This Region 4-4M quarterfinal game will produce a winner that will move on next week to play No. 1 Miami Columbus (9-2) in the regional semifinal.
