Recruiting News

As we head into the final week of the 2025 season, it’s time to reflect back on this unpredictable year.

From lightning delays and postponements early in the year, this was a four-month period that will long be remembered for being anything but normal.

As some favorites followed through to live up to their pre-season hype, there were other programs that fell short – or in some cases – exceeded expectations.

With five schools headed to this week’s state finals, south Florida certainly remained in the football spotlight as colleges and universities made Miami-Dade and Broward County a priority when it comes to recruiting and filling their rosters.

With all that in mind, we check out the top local teams heading into the second round of the state playoffs:

1 Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas (5A, 13-1). LAST WEEK: The Raiders moved closer to a chance at seven straight state titles with a 45-13 win against Fort Myers Riverdale. THIS WEEK: Lakeland on Thursday, Dec. 11 at 7:30.

2. Miami Northwestern (3A, 13-0). LAST WEEK: The Bulls moved a step closer to repeating with a convincing 52-21 win against Orlando Bishop Moore. THIS WEEK: Jacksonville Raines in a rematch of last year’s final on Friday, Dec. 12 at 7:30 p.m.

3. Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna (1A, 11-2). LAST WEEK: The Lions advanced to the state title game for an amazing 10th straight time with a 35-0 win against Jacksonville Trinity Christian. THIS WEEK: West Palm Beach Cardinal Newman will be making their first state final appearance on Thursday, Dec. 11 at 12:30 p.m.

4. West Broward (6A, 12-2). LAST WEEK: Fresh off a huge road win against Gainesville Buchholz, 24-17, the Bobcats will make their first ever state championship appearance. THIS WEEK: It’s a south Florida battle against defending state champion – West Boca Raton – on Friday, Dec. 12th at 12:30 p.m.

5. Plantation American Heritage (4A, 8-5). LAST WEEK: The defending state champion Patriots traveled over 600 miles and came away with a huge 31-14 win against Fort Walton Beach Choctawhatchee.
