By now everyone has heard all about how Miami Central’s season came to an end.
No matter what happened that caused one of the nation’s premier football programs to forfeit the season, the young men on this team deserved a whole lot better than being “attacked and put down” on social media with something that they had absolutely nothing to do with.
While most across the state had huge smiles on their collective faces that the Rockets wouldn’t be participating in the post season for the first time in decades, not one of those media agencies or fans via all the social media outlets for one minute thought about the players on this team.
This senior class that set standards, won titles and kept the state of Florida in conversation as being among the best in the country certainly deserved a better ending.
As it’s easy to point fingers, talk about the future and hand out blame, maybe you need to take a step back and for one minute think about those young men and their families who sacrificed so much to be in a position where they were once again one of the top teams in the nation and picked as a favorite to win it all in 3A this year.
Miami Central is NOT just any program. The Rockets and their many impressive football players have certainly been ambassadors for Florida – from Nevada to California and everywhere in between. While they always talked a big game, they backed it up and paved the way for all of Florida to gain national recognition.
While they missed out on making the state finals in 2023, losing to Miami Norland twice, let’s not sweep under the rug the 96-14 record they had over the past decade with multiple state titles and a national championship.
The senior class needs to be recognized for what they accomplished on the football field and not be shamed for what they had nothing to do with.
