Killian and Gulliver Get Kickoff Classics Started Today

Over the past nine months since the 2020 high school football season ended, there has been a lot of talk about the top teams in south Florida.

With the beginning of the 2021 season a week away, the next three days will bring back some normalcy for high school football teams across the state of Florida.

With a spring and summer that included several player transfers and changes in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties, we will see which program benefitted and which teams fell short in their quest to be one of the best not only locally – but statewide.

When budding 5A power Miami Killian visits Miami Gulliver Prep at 4:00, everyone will have the opportunity to watch Coach Derrick Gibson and his Cougars face off against Coach Earl Sims and a Raider team is expecting to do some big things once again – trying to advance to state this year after falling short the past two against Miami Booker T. Washington and last season Cardinal Gibbons.

The competition in 4A is certainly going to be tough, but Killian will also find that 5A will have no easy passes – with North Miami Beach, Miami Central and Plantation American Heritage among the programs to keep an eye on.

Both teams are loaded on both sides of the ball – with all-star prospects all over the field.

OTHER THURSDAY NIGHT GAMES TO WATCH

In addition to Killian and Gulliver Prep, Homestead and Miami Carol City (Traz Powell Stadium) and Miami High at Miami Southridge will both kickoff at 7 with new coaches.

Homestead has been building toward this season – while the Chiefs are in a very impressive 4A, loaded with contenders.

Broward County games tonight will feature Delray American Heritage visiting a quality Douglas program at 6. Also at 6:00 right down the street, Coral Glades will play host to Blanche Ely.

Also, Deerfield Beach will play host to Miami Gardens TRU Prep Academy at 7:00.

Three programs from Broward will visit Palm Beach County – with Coral Springs Charter at Boca Raton St. Andrew’s, 7:00, Plantation at Palm Beach Gardens Dwyer, 6:30 and Coral Springs Taravella at Boca Raton Olympic Heights, which is scheduled for a 6:00 kickoff.

Rounding out tonight’s schedule will be Pompano Beach visiting Fort Lauderdale Pine Crest at 7:00 – and Stranahan heading out to play 8A power Davie Western – also at 7.
