Gene Chew has been coaching football long enough to know that the work you put in during the off-season will pay off in the late summer and into the fall.
As the only head coach Miami’s John Ferguson has ever had, his recipe for success is getting his teams ready for the long season ahead.
While they will never be confused for the powers in south Florida, the Falcons have long understood that staying in their own lane, as an independent team, will end up being positive by the end of the year. It has the past two seasons.
Two years ago, this team finished 10-1 and captured the GMAC title with a thrilling win against longtime rival Miami Braddock. This past season, they played in the title game, coming up short to Miami Coral Reef, 14-7.
Going 6-6 was not what this program worked so hard for, and even though they battled to the end, when 2024 ended it was all about what this program would do in 2025.
With a strong rising senior (2026) class coming back, the objective during the second week of November is play for another title.
Several key returners are back for another run at a title. There is also an emphasis this spring to get several rising seniors, juniors and sophomores game film so colleges and universities will have the chance to see exactly what they have on the roster for the upcoming season.
Here are some of those 2026 players to keep an eye on.
