Because the focus on skill players is so heavy throughout Miami-Dade and Broward Counties, it’s usually the linemen who often get short-changed when it comes to the spotlight.
But with more of the focus on the “big men” up front, that is starting to change, and while line prospects have been overlooked, the future is now including these talented prospects.
The change has started to come with off-season events, once geared for every other position the linemen are now getting the chance to take center stage.
Even the popular 7-on-7 tournaments are now including line camps, so teams are getting the chance to bring everyone and not leaving offensive and defensive linemen at home.
As this region of the country continues to produce more and more line prospects, more camps and combines are now popping up, making sure that teaching technique is paramount for these rising football prospects.
Today, we take a look at some offensive linemen who are turning heads and doing that extra that is needed to land a scholarship and gain the spotlight.
Among those in the Class of 2023 (seniors) include Zian Atawalla (Coconut Creek Monarch), versatile Cole Baird (Fort Lauderdale Calvary Christian), Francisco Caballero (Miami Gulliver Prep), FAU-bound center Joey Colosi (Plantation American Heritage), heavily recruited guard Darryl Doctor (Miami Palmetto) and tackle Deandre Duffus (Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna).
Miami Dr. Krop tackle Nicholas Garcia, versatile Harrison Green (Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas), highly-recruited tackle/guard Shelton Green (Miami Gulliver Prep), three-year starting tackle Elvin Harris (Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna), under the radar athlete Johnny Holly (Miami Westminster Christian), Fort Lauderdale Dillard tackle Rico Jackson and Taravella two-way transfer Victor King (Plantation American Heritage) are also very special.
Speaking of special, Indiana University commit William Larkins (Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna), tackle/guard Konnor Mann (Miami Christopher Columbus), Miami Belen Jesuit guard transfer Aiden Martinez (Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna), soon to be three-year varsity starter Ryan Mickow (Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas - T/G), hard-working Victor Pino (Miami Palmetto) and center Matthew Prigmore (Weston Cypress Bay), Roger Reyes (Davie Western), Jake Rodriguez (Miami Christopher Columbus - G) and Miami Norland guard Rodric Smith have a chance to be special.
Speaking of special, keeping an eye on nationally-rated University of Miami commitment Frankie Tinilau (Miami Immaculata LaSalle), experienced tackle Danny Maitlen Jr. (Hollywood South Broward) and Delray American Heritage transfer Conal Walsh (Fort Lauderdale Cardinal Gibbons)
HOW BRIGHT IS THE FUTURE? SEE FOR YOURSELF
While the Class of 2023 is loaded with potential game-changers, the Class of 2024 is equally impressive – with Lonnie Brady (Homestead), Fort Lauderdale Cardinal Gibbons tackle Zack Boehly, and a pair of impressive prospects in Michael Brennan (Weston Cypress Bay) and Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna guard Jackson Campbell.
The class also boats standouts such as Deymein Chavarry (Davie Western), Michael Chiples (Pembroke Pines Flanagan), recent Hialeah Champagnat Catholic transfer Jabari Dukes (Miami Monsignor Pace), Chanellson Exume (Miami Edison) and Timothy Burroughs-Love (Plantation American Heritage).
Miami Killian’s Ricardo Martinez, tackle Daniel Mincey (Fort Lauderdale Cardinal Gibbons), well tested Miami Central products Luke Moise, Keion Reyes and guard William Rothmiller III are all special. So is Miami Norland’s Caleb Riley, and tackle William Roberts III, center Matthew Rubio and Brian Suarez (Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas).
The junior class will also roll out tackle Jonathan Rodriguez (Fort Lauderdale Cardinal Gibbons), George Stubbs Jr., Miami Dade Christian) and battle tested tackle Jimmy Williams III (Plantation American Heritage).
