When the 2025 high school football season began, the experts who choose the top teams talked about Miami Central returning as a favorite in 3A – and Miami Southridge being a team to keep an eye on in 6A.
Tonight (7:30) when the Greater Miami Athletic Conference week comes to an end, it will be these two programs that will be in the spotlight at Traz Powell Stadium.
For head coach Pierre Senatus and his unbeaten (8-0) Spartans, it has been a season in which they have answered every bell, and in a very competitive Class 6A, they are indeed one of the programs that everyone is looking at to make a serious run at a state title.
This is a team that has talent on both sides of the ball and certainly belongs in the conversation as one of the best in the state.
ROCKETS REBOUNDING FROM LOSS TO NORTHWESTERN
No matter what happens this evening, the Central Rockets and first year head coach Derrick Gibson feel they are one obstacle from playing for a state title. But that major hurdle is a team they lost to already – the defending 3A state champion Northwestern Bulls.
That 30-21 setback a few weeks ago was indeed the first of two meetings as they should collide once again in the second round of the state playoffs.
The region is not strong, and Central and Northwestern would have to suffer a complete letdown not to meet for the second time this season.
As colleges and universities do their thing on this Saturday, tonight should indeed be a contest that will further showcase the elite talent that is Miami-Dade County.
