Twenty-Three Miami-Dade & Broward Teams Advance To Round 2

With Pitbull Stadium (FIU) once again the destination for the state 1A-7A football playoffs, several Miami-Dade and Broward County teams opened the first round with victories this past week.

With defending state champions Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna (1A), Miami Northwestern (3A), Plantation American Heritage (4A) and Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas (5A) all winning in the opening round, things will start to get very interesting coming up with Thursday and Friday when the stake become much higher.

Several teams who were thought to be in contention for a state championship appearance also stayed alive with key first round wins.

The Lions and head coach Dameon Jones are looking for an amazing 10th straight trip to the state finals.

In 3A, the Miami Northwestern Bulls go after their second straight state title after Teddy Bridgewater guided them there last season. Can first year head coach Jaquatin Victrum help this team repeat?

After making a championship run in 2024, head coach Mike Smith and Plantation American Heritage will look to defend their 4A state title – despite finishing 4-5 in the regular season but playing one of the toughest schedules in the state.

When Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas opened play last week in the 5A playoffs, veteran head coach Roger Harriott and his Raiders are looking for a mind-boggling seventh straight state title.
