It happens every year. Teams head into the first round of the state football playoffs with plenty of hope and enthusiasm.
The reality of having the experience of competing in the post season shows up in the opening round (quarterfinals) and continues to the regional semifinals.
As last week saw several dreams dashed, 12 Miami-Dade and Broward County programs will continue on the region finals, and with that advancement, the honor of practicing on Thanksgiving is something that every team in Florida aims for every post season.
From south Miami to Palm Beach County, area programs will compete in each class as they move on step closer to playing for a state title in the second week of December at Pitbull Stadium on the campus of Florida International University.
As the next round gets started on Friday, there are still three schools (1A – Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna), (5A – Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas) and (7A – Miami Christopher Columbus) are still playing as defending state champions.
