SPRING FOCUS – South Dade Ready Contend Again

Even though the South Dade football program finished 4-1 in a Covid-shortened season, veteran head coach Nate Hudson and his football left the season not satisfied.

Losing to Monarch in the Tri-County playoffs, the Bucs never fully got untracked this past season.

With plenty of work in the off-season and into the spring, it was the wins against Miami Jackson (14-6), Miami Southridge (28-19), Coral Gables (14-3) and Southwest Miami (16-6) that gave many of the returnees the confidence needed.

Remember, this is a program that is in the mix in 8A every year. They have the talent, coaching and tradition to fuel them.

With a successful spring, the Bucs have been getting a chance to look at some of the prospects who will lead this team in 2021.

The Class of 2022 (rising seniors) will be counted on heavily. Among those gifted prospects include Asaiah Ancrum (WR, 5-9, 160), Elvis Bridgeman (DB, 6-3, 200), Randall Cooper (OL, 6-1, 240), Yavis Ferrell (QB, 6-0, 170), Erazebra Gibson (WR/RB, 5-8, 145), Chris Gomez (OL, 6-1, 260) and receiver Michael Griffin (6-2, 175) will be solid.

Heavily-recruited Markey Mallary (DB, 6-1, 185), Andre Saintil (OL, 6-3, 325), Jaden Salgado (OL, 6-3, 280), Jeff Simeon (DE/LB, 6-0, 210) and versatile Amarion Williams (DE/LB, 6-1, 220) will be prospects to keep an eye on as well.

KEEP AN EYE ON THE UNDERCLASSMEN

If you have followed this program for any length of time, you know that the talent train continues to run through Homestead – and this coming season will be no exception.

The Class of 2023 (rising juniors) talent is indeed a place where this program will add depth. Prospects such as Noel Garcia (OL, 6-1, 235), DeMauri Ivey (DB, 5-11, 160), Jabari Lewis (WR, 6-1, 170), Jaden Miller (RB, 6-0, 175), Justin Moon (DB, 5-9, 170), Christian Nieves (OL, 5-11, 230), Cameron Owens (RB/WR, 5-7, 150) and defensive lineman Jamerson Saxtron (6-1, 220) will be a huge help in 2021.

The Bucs are also stacked in the Class of 2024 (rising sophomores) – with state wrestling champion and freshman starter Sawyer Bartelt (LB, 5-10, 200), Chino Cepeda (LB, 6-0, 200), Kodak Jordan (WR, 5-8, 155), Anthony Reed (OL, 5-10, 210), Jalen Saintil (DL, 6-0, 215) and quality defensive back Antravius Shropshire (5-8, 150).
