When his Somerset Academy Homestead team beat True North Classical Academy, 21-14, to end the season, head coach Andre Daniels pointed to the victory as a stepping stone.
In an inaugural season that saw the Hurricanes finish 1-9, the result was not the concern for this program. What the coaches and players wanted to get out of the first season was a direction, and that was accomplished.
With so many young players on the field this past season, Daniels and the Hurricanes wanted to set down a foundation. One that would help this program grow and mature every season.
What the 2021 season was all about for this program was to get the rising senior class (2022) experience and ready for the 2021 season.
With a productive off-season, including this spring, all that hard work put in is starting to pay off for the Hurricanes.
Among those rising seniors who are expected to make an impact this coming season include Leonello Collins II (TE/DE/OLB, 6-1, 185 – 3.0 GPA), Tonio Evans (WR/DB, 6-0, 155 – 3.22 GPA), Michael Kesterson (QB, 6-1, 160 – 3.886 GPA), Xavier Moore (LB/SS, 5-10, 180 – 3.22 GPA), Trevor Perkins (OL, 6-1, 220 – 3.0 GPA) and versatile Shawn Smith (RB/DB, 6-0, 165 – 2.821 GPA)
