While there are so many high school football coaches throughout Miami-Dade and Broward Counties who receive plenty of attention for winning games and developing talent, there is one that many fans seem to overlook.
Talk to any college coach who recruits the state of Florida – or any high school coach who has competed with or against him and Sunrise Piper, head coach Quentin Short’s name will surface – in a positive way.
What Short represents is hard work, knowledge and the ability to develop talent no matter where he coaches. He is someone who believes that what you put into the sport in the off-season will pay off – and it has in his stops locally at Parkland Douglas and at Piper where he has led the Bengals into the state playoffs the past two seasons.
In an era where student/athletes are getting the wrong advice when it comes to making choices on the football field, Coach Short has always been a straight shooter with the athletes and their parents.
While he has lost several players this off-season to programs who are promising the world, he brings back a strong nucleus this off-season and has started to get ready for another playoff run in 2026.
Remember, this is a program that participated in the Broward National High School Football Showcase and then went on to have solid season with several new faces.
Placing his student/athletes into college is something that doesn’t come by not making relationships and attending events in the spring and summer. He makes sure that his teams have competition throughout the course of the year.
Here are some of the talented prospects who will have the opportunity for colleges to watch them this winter and spring as they look to build on last year’s 7-5 record:
