Prospect Show Out At The Portal Mega Camp

MIAMI – They came from Fort Myers, Delray Beach and from all around south Florida to compete.

From fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth graders going through their first combine/camp experience - to high school seniors looking to grab a part of the spotlight, they all headed to the legendary Gwen Cherry Park in the heart of Miami’s Liberty City.

The first ever South Florida Portal Mega Camp & Combine attracted nearly 100 football players looking to learn and find out about themselves.

While several young prospects were out there to see what the future holds for themselves on the gridiron, high school football players had the chance to make a statement.

With all the talent on hand, we bring you five gifted high school players that showcased their many skills in front of coaches and several parents who came out to support.

As we will continue to look at the inaugural event this week – featuring players and coaches – today we shine the spotlight on five prospects:

2027 – Samuel Boatright, DL/OL, 6’1, 250, Southwest Ranches Archbishop McCarthy – 3.8 GPA. Wrestler. Big time athlete who brings it all to the football field with quickness, strength and the ability to pick things up. Will emerge as one of the elite rising juniors for the Mavericks and first year head coach Jake Pew this coming season. Versatile performer who cane lineup on either side of the ball. He was awarded as MVP.

2026 – Wynton Jones Jr., DB, 5’11, 165, Miami Palmetto – 2.8 GPA. Soon to be a four-year varsity performer for head coach Mike Manasco and his Panthers, he has turned into one of the best secondary performers in south Florida, and his leadership qualities and ability to play this game at a high level has brought the attention of several colleges. He is indeed one of the prospects that will be among the elite in south Florida for the 2025 season.

2026 – Sushanth Mortala, OL, 6’3, 255. Weston Cypress Bay – 3.0 GPA. Yet another line prospect who has been working hard over the past two years to have his stock rise. He has tremendous feet, improving technique and will be a major plus for head coach Bret Hood and his Lightning this season. He often attends camps and combines for the exposure and continues to pick up some valuable information from coaches like former Dolphin Mike Pouncey, who instructed the linemen at the event.

2026 – Humberto Serrano, QB, 5’11, 165, Somerset Academy Silver Palms – 3.0 GPA. This three-year varsity performer has been way under the radar for too long, and on Saturday, he showcased his skills, walking away with the MVP. A big-time talent who has arm strength, high football IQ and is the type of team player you want on your side. Keep your eye on this young man during the spring and summer and you will see what many have been missing.

From over an hour away in Palm Beach County came one of Florida’s fast emerging stars, and in every drill, test and competition, this rising sophomore answered every bell and showed why he is regarded as one of the elite and versatile defensive prospects.
