There has been much talk over the past year that while both teams lost heart-wrenching games to eventual state champion Booker T. Washington, either had the talent to have gone on to win that 4A crown as well.
The Tornadoes ripped the playoff hearts out of then Gulliver Prep sophomore sensation Carson Haggard and Cardinal Gibbons’ amazing junior Brody Palhegyi.
This evening, spacious FIU is the scene and those two quarterbacks have grown up and will be the centerpiece of what happens at 7:30.
Two of the state’s premier teams will battle in a year-ender for one quality program – while the other can go on and blaze a trail once again for south Florida.
It’s the much-anticipated south Florida football game in this crazy and frustrating 2020 season, and there will be plenty of stars on the horizon.
This is another of those games – much like Miami Northwestern and American Heritage – should be a much later matchup – and almost begs for their to be annual re-seeding of teams after each round in the playoffs, which often ensures better games.
The Chiefs got to this evening’s game with wins over Miami Monsignor Pace (28-12), Doral Academy (35-3), nationally rated St. Thomas Aquinas (17-10) and Clewiston (37-7). The only setback was to longtime rival Plantation American Heritage, 23-17.
