SOUTHWEST RANCHES - They came from Homestead and Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Hollywood on Saturday to get better, and when the day was done, nearly 100 south Florida high school football players turned some heads.
With Archbishop head coach Coach Dino Mangiero his staff, which included Patrick Cooney, the Mavericks hosted a college pre camp workout that attracted some prospects – young and old.
Among other coaches on hand included Jake Pew (LB), Ant Collins (DB), Coach Adam (OL), Jaccarre Givens (RB), Chris Parker (WR) and Josh Shapiro (QB).
The event which was free brought together coaches and players who were looking for that edge, and they got it.
“We wanted to host something like this to bring these young men out here to help give them an advantage,” said Mangeiro, who has had decades of teaching and coaching. “Giving these players an opportunity to come out for a free event that was a perfect way to start their summer.”
With several college events coming up throughout June, the event on Saturday helped to prepare these talented prospects for what’s ahead at many of these very competitive camps.
While there were many gifted young players who came to learn and get their names on the map, a few players that were already established came out as well.
Miami Monsignor Pace state-rated defensive lineman Wilnerson Telemaque was certainly one of those gifted players who attended.
The 6-5, 240-pounder has already put his name on the map – with outstanding performances at several combines this off-season.
Telemaque’s interest includes schools such as Charlotte, Akron, FAU, Liberty and Power 5 school Pittsburgh.
In addition to Telemaque, Class of 2025 lineman Michael Dean was also on hand to showcase his many skills. The 6-5, 280-pounder who came to Homestead from Miami High, is already on the lists of college coaches across the country.
Dean is going to be one of Florida’s top 2025 prospects. He is indeed someone to keep an eye on. He also boasts a 3.0 GPA.
Speaking of high-grade point average, the host school also had some gifted youngsters on hand. One of them was Class of 2026 quarterback Robert Kerns.
What this impressive football player brings to the table is skill and athleticism in a 6-0, 175-pound frame. His 4.0 grade point average in the classroom is indeed something to keep an eye on as well.
Kerns is a tremendous prospect on the football field as well as a standout baseball player.
