As we have reached the halfway point of the 2021 high school football season, more and more athletes continue to emerge.
Every week in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties, there are impressive talent who have stepped into the spotlight – and many are underclassmen.
There was a time, back in the day, when younger players would wait behind juniors and seniors, but that is no longer the case – not in south Florida where there are so many gifted athletes who are just waiting for their opportunity to showcase skills that many have not seen before.
As we do every Wednesday, during the season, we bring you 5 Miami-Dade and Broward County prospects to keep an eye on:
2023 – Dieutriche Exantus, LB, 6-0, 205, North Miami. As much of the focus on the linebacker position centers around some impressive 2022 seniors, there are prospects like this young man who is easily one of the best in his class. What this young man has turned into for the Pioneers is a dependable tackler, who will get into the backfield as well as drop in coverage. Solid talent that this program believes has had a tremendous leader for a program that needs one.

2022 – Isaiah Farris, DB, 6-0, 165, Fort Lauderdale Cardinal Gibbons. If you watch this gifted prospect play, you already know how valuable he’s been to this program the past two seasons – as a big play secondary standout who has it all. Started the year off much the way he left spring and summer. Always around the ball because he is a very smart student/athlete who gets up for the big games.

2023 - E.J. Manuel, DB/WR, 6-2, 165, Pompano Beach. The Tornadoes do have something very special in this quality talent who has the size, athletic ability and passion to play this game. Watch him on either side of the ball and you can see that this is indeed someone special who has all of this season and into next year to continue to impress. Also gets it done in the classroom as well.

2023 – Anthony Rubio, RB/KR, 5-8, 165, Miami Belen Jesuit. Whether it was as a youth player, at True North Classical Academy or this year for the Wolverines, this is a fast, instinctive football player who puts his team in great field position with special teams returns. Whether running out of the backfield or catching passes, this is a passionate football prospect who will outwork you – and it shows every week.

2024 - Rueben Toombs, QB, 6-1, 165, Fort Lauderdale Stranahan. On a team that has already played a competitive schedule in this young season, here is a sophomore who has shown that his speed, athletic ability and maturity has made him one of those young quarterbacks who will continue to learn and improve every season. This is truly one of those prospects that you build a program around, coach Harden and the Dragon are doing that right now.
