As long as many high school football fans can remember, when it comes to coaching and developing talent, there are very few who can match what Miami St. Brendan head coach Steve Smith brings to the table.
For decades, teaching the sport and developing talent have become the trademark of a coach who has filled the south Florida landscape with his knowledge of the game and bringing along some elite young players before they moved on to the next level – or in this day and age – to another school.
While his team finished 4-7 a year ago, there was plenty the players and coaches who got out of a season that ended with a first-round state playoff loss.
As the Sabres starts spring, there is an objective of once again taking the veteran players to the next level – while starting to develop many of the younger prospects who will use the next few months to get some film for colleges to check out and use in their recruitment.
With the rising senior (2027) class vital to the 2026 season, there are several underclassmen who will also have a chance to improve and put themselves in a position to help this team advance to the state playoffs again – while improving on last season.
This program will look to impact prospects from a year ago like Moises Rodriguez, Ethan Miller, Cameron Henfield, Jayden Dixon, Zaid Tovio-Garcia young Jakeem Ferguson and several others who are ready to help turn this program around.
