Over the past two years, Douglas High’s football program has lost just twice.
In a year following a district championship and a home state playoff game, head coach Quentin Short and his Eagles – like just about everyone else in south Florida – saw the 2020 season go by with very little fanfare.
Two wins (against Coral Springs and Coral Glades) gave this program 10 wins in the past 11 games – and since taking over the program, Short has certainly continued to develop and teach these athletes. The season came to an end because of Covid and certainly sent off the 2021 class with a crazy feeling.
With enough talent now coming from the area and buying into what this school is doing, you can see – with this rising senior (2022) class – that there are several quality athletes who have an opportunity to make a difference – as soon as this spring.
Speaking of this rising senior class, there are athletes such as Alex Brotton (DE, 6-0, 195 – 3.16 GPA, 1190 SAT), Daniel Bobes (SS, 5-10 175 – 3.03 GPA, 880 SAT), Chris Cepeda (FS, 5-10 170 – 2.5 GPA – 890 SAT), Matthew Dubois (OL, 6-3, 290 – 3.8 GPA, 1100 SAT) and running back .Jamari Leo (RB, 5-11, 175 – 2.5 GPA).
Also, Jack Levin (OL, 6-6, 315), Hervin Louis (WR, 6-3, 180 – 2.77 GPA – 950 SAT), Aris Skarecki (OL, 6-0, 280 – 2.7 GPA, 1050 SAT), Christian Spencer (WR, 5-7, 160 – 2.7 GPA, 850 SAT), Lydro Tatoute (DB, 6-2, 160 – 2.97 GPA – 910 SAT) and defensive back Gianny Zengotita (5-10, 170 – 4.6 GPA – 1280 SAT).
THE FUTURE IS NOW FOR MANY ATHLETES
When this coaching staff talk about the future – and what this program has coming in – you can look at the Class of 2023 (rising juniors) as a place where the Eagles will land. Prospects such as receiver Lenny Cipola (5-7, 140 – 3.14 GPA), Zach Goldberg (QB, 6-1, 160 – 3.56 GPA), Jacob Hunter (DL, 5-11, 240 – 3.94 GPA), Tucker Jean (TE/LB, 6-1, 200 – 3.72 GPA) and running back Josh Joseph (5-6, 155) will be huge for this team this coming season.
Also getting some looks this spring will be Gabriel Lenamon (LB, 5-10, 190 – 3.56 GPA), impressive and hard-working Brock Moskowitz (DL, 5-10, 255 – 3.8 GPA), Tehzib Philip (SS, 5-8, 175 – 3.97 GPA) and receiver Brayden Warford (6-1, 155 – 2.78 GPA).
Even this past freshman class – the rising sophomores of 2024 – have some very capable players.
Keep an eye on Clayton Cannon (WR, 5-6, 150 – 3.52 GPA), Maddox Haase (DB/WR, 5-5, 130), Jacob Jones (DE, 5-8, 187), Jackson Norkunas (DB, 5-8, 130), and quarterbacks Hunter Rose (6-0, 150) and Ryan Spallinia (6-1, 180 – 4.0 GPA).
