If anyone told you three weeks ago that Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna, Homestead and Davie Western would be 0-2 heading into the third week of the season, many would question your knowledge. But that is the reality.
The 2024 season, which was so promising for several area elite programs has not started out that way.
As we head toward Week 3, five of the six top teams in Miami-Dade and Broward are all 1-1. But while the news didn’t start out so great, there are several months to go until a state champion us crowned.
Over the weekend. Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas and head coach Roger Harriott rebounded from the tough loss to national power Las Vegas Bishop Gorman in the Broward National Football Showcase with a convincing 51-0 win against Lauderdale Lakes Boyd Anderson.
After making numerous mistakes in the season opener against top-rated Lakeland, the Miami Central Rockets and head coach Jube Joseph rebounded in a big way against Miami Edison, 54-7.
In perhaps the best game in the state last week, Teddy Bridgewater and his Miami Northwestern Bulls traveled to Venice to take on the two-time defending state runner up Indians. In a contest that went back and forth, Northwestern dropped an overtime thriller, 48-42.
After losing to national powerhouse Milton, Georgia in the Broward National Football Showcase, head coach Mike Smith and his Plantation American Heritage Patriots got back on the winning track in a major way – 51-12 against Davie Western.
The big winner this week was certainly head coach Terence McFadden and his Pompano Beach Blanche Ely Tigers, who stunned national powerhouse Chaminade-Madonna, 35-34, in overtime and sent a message that this team was certainly a team to keep an eye on.
When we said that every week, football will be very special and competitive here in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties, and after two games, facts are facts.
