South Dade’s Markey Mallary Leads An Impressive Young DB Group

There is no getting around the amount of talent that roams football fields in south Florida. Some get overlooked until analysts and recruiting writers get a chance to see them.

Because there are so many football prospects, you sometimes have to be special – and when you happen to be a defensive backs – you will get that opportunity to compete against some of the best receivers in the country.

The competition that is south Florida is the reason that this area is one of the best in the country. When it comes to defensive backs, there is NO place anywhere that produces the level of secondary standouts that this region of the country produces each and every year.

Whether it’s during the off season – at camps and combines, 7-on-7 events or just the weekly schedule that these teams have to play, you have to bring your best – every time you step on the field.

You can tell south Florida-bred defensive backs when they attend camps. They are the ones used to the competition and they back away from no challenge.

MALLARY PROFILE

PLAYER: Markey Mallary

POSITION: DB

SCHOOL: Homestead South Dade

CLASS: 2022

HEIGHT: 6-1

WEIGHT: 190

SCOUTING: Look back at the history of South Dade football and you will find defensive backs who have set standards, turned heads and moved on to the next level and beyond.

This is a group of athletes who have turned enough heads that they have landed at some of the top colleges in the country – and that is something that has not stopped.

In Mallary, you have a top-flight young prospect who has the chance to be very special.

Size, quickness, athletic ability and versatility. He brings it all to the table.

For a program that was on top of the world after six week of the 2019 season, the world came crashing down on the Bucs – even though they took Miami Palmetto down to the wire and advanced to the state playoffs, losing to Davie Western in the opening round.

What Mallary brings to the table is hard work and plenty of football skills. He is a member of a very young defensive secondary that also includes Class of 2023 players Marcus Woodley and Christian Hanks – as well as fellow 2022 standout Elvis Bridgeman.

A solid playmaker who has the skills to play corner and the toughness to compete at safety.

With so many 8A teams in the hunt for a state title, South Dade will always have the talent to be in the mix – with prospects like Mallary leading the way.
