Chaminade-American Heritage Highlight Week 4 In Miami-Dade/Broward Games To Watch Today

We have gone three weeks of the 2022 high school football season and the action continues to come – fast and furious.

There is not a week that goes by where we are not watching high profile and marquee matchups that have an impact nationally, regionally and statewide.

With more games coming up today and tonight, it signals that there will be no off weeks for programs in the spotlight, and that is great for one of the most talented areas in the country.

There a number of games being played this Friday, involving Miami-Dade and Broward Schools, but we have five that could be what everyone will be talking about on Saturday and throughout the week.

No. 5 Plantation American Heritage (4-0) at No. 2 Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna (3-0). There are many ways to look at this evening’s matchup that will attract national attention. For first year head coach Mike Smith and his Patriots this is a game that can firmly put this program back on the national map by beating a team that many believe that can lineup against ANYONE in the country – with elite talent on both sides of the ball. The Patriots are also loaded with quality talent, and they have more than proven it through the first four games. As for the Lions, they have answered every bell so far this season and have one of the toughest schedules in Florida. While head coach Dameon Jones and his team will never admit it, losing to the Patriots last year was something that stung and may have kept them from being a top 5-10 team nationally. Payback has to be on their minds!

No. 12 Coconut Creek (2-1) at No. 16 Plantation (2-1), 7:00. Flash back to last year at this time and the Cougars went to PAL Field in Plantation and walked out with a stunning and convincing win against head coach Steve Davis and his Colonels, paving the way for a district title. Coming off an overtime loss to state power Davie Western last week, head coach Johnnie Sloan and his team will be just as hungry to get back at Plantation for beating them in the playoffs. Any way you slice this game it will be exciting and filled with plenty of talent and big play potential.

Doral Academy (2-1) at West Palm Beach Cardinal Newman (3-0), 7:00. Coach Eddie Delgado and the Firebirds are still licking their wounds after being dominated by Rockledge, and while they need to continue to get things back in gear, they cannot afford to overlook head coach Jack Daniels and his Crusaders, who are on the cusp of being a state power – with elite prospects and great coaching. If Doral Academy comes to play, this will be exciting. But if they go through the motions, it could get away from them – fast!

No. 3 Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas (3-0) at No. 7 Davie Western (2-0), 7:00. Last year is last year, but for head coach Adam Ratkevich and his Wildcats, losing to the Raiders in 2021 by 10 (31-21) has stayed with players and coaches for the past year. Still, head coach Roger Harriott and his team remain loaded with talent everywhere and are still a force nationally. For Western to win at home they will have to play a near perfect game.

No. 6 Miami Christopher Columbus (3-0) at Miami Palmetto (1-2), Tropical Park, 7:30. Are these two teams going in different directions? After last week’s convincing win at home against defending state champion Tampa Jesuit, head coach Dave Dunn and the Explorers are a favorite in 4M to make plenty of noise with a lot of talent. The Panthers and head coach Mike Manasco had hoped for a better start to the season, and while this is a long way from being over, a win tonight can change just about everything and give them the confidence moving forward. A loss is not the end of the world for either team – as this is likely to be the first of two matchups, and the second one will be the most important in late November.
