Deerfield Beach DB Phillip O’Brien Jr. Embraces His Final Season

By now, if you’ve watched high school football in south Florida, you already know that you cannot simply say you are going to do things, you have to prove them.

Because of amazing talent at every turn, having to prove yourself each and every day is what this region of the country has long been about.

The competition is so intense, and the opportunities so great, you will be challenged at camps, combines, practices and in games. There is no resting on what you did yesterday. If you don’t bring your “A” game with you every time you play football, you will be knocked down at every turn.

The competition in the defensive secondary is perhaps greater than any other position in south Florida. No matter where you lineup in the secondary, you need to step it up – because the receivers will dictate that you play your best – or fall out of the spotlight.

O’BRIEN PROFILE

PLAYER: Phillip O’Brien Jr

POSITION: DB

SCHOOL: Deerfield Beach

CLASS: 2021

HEIGHT: 6-2

WEIGHT: 180

SCOUTING: While the conversation goes on about what position this young man is best at, his work in the off season has put himself in a position to do what is needed to help his team win and get college recognition at the same time.

This is one of the most versatile defensive backs in south Florida, and as the college offers and attention can back up, there is plenty of interest in this quality football talent.

There is no question that he has elevated his game and is one of the most versatile defensive backs around, and while those who watch and have an opinion whether he’s better suited for corner or safety, this is someone who pays no attention to the talk and concentrates on what’s ahead for his team.

Because he has received a challenge the past year in his own practices – with head coach Jevon Glenn’s receivers being among the most talented in south Florida, O’Brien has had room to grow, and many are looking at that as a win/win for this talented young man.

With a huge season ahead, all eyes will be on that defensive secondary – to see if O’Brien and this program can live up to the pre-season hype!
