QUICK HITS – Archbishop McCarthy Continues To Develop Student/Athletes

While the Coronavirus is dictating high school football, across the country, we can understand the need for ongoing exposure.

Because we promote high school football in south Florida year-round, there is no need to stop right now.

In the coming weeks, we will have a brief look at the school in south Florida in a segment that we call “QUICK HITS”.

Today, our “QUICK HITS” comes back to western Broward County and a look at Archbishop McCarthy.

SUMMARY: As a football coach is certainly among the most successful during his six decades, Byron Walker has long been about teaching, developing and getting his student/athletes ready for life. Whether it’s football related or just to be an important part of society, his football players will always be ahead of many their age.

Walker’s football teams have been competitive and have won through the years – taking home state titles and being recognized for his coaching. As his Mavericks head toward to the 2020 season, there is plenty to be excited about.

With the entire offensive line coming back from this past season, the team will truly be enhanced with talented prospects such as Giorgio Bianchi; Brandon Ravelo and Derek DeGraves. In addition, Ryder Lewin will push Jesse Mendizabal for the starting quarterback position; Joe Davis and Lester Arteaga's leadership in the offseason.

Walker was named Broward County Coach of the Year 12 times, State Coach of the year 3 times, and FACA Hall of Fame Class of 2003. As head coach, his teams appeared in nine State Final Champions, winning the title three times. Coach Walker was the head coach in Florida/Georgia All-Star game twice and the Florida North/South game twice. In 2015,
