THE SCOOP

It has gotten to the point in the town of Davie when the sport of football is mentioned, the Wildcats quickly enter the conversation.

District titles, state playoffs and enough talent to compete with just about anyone in the state of Florida.

Coming off a year in which they lost to 3A state champion Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna (30-13), 7A state champion Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas (31-21) and to Miami Christopher Columbus (27-8) in the second round of the state playoffs, here is a football program that entered the spring with plenty of optimism and a load of talent.

Leading the way is rising senior quarterback Collin Hurst, who three for 3,267 yards and 35 touchdowns a year ago – while moving closer to the all-time Broward County record.

Hurst, the 8A Offensive Player of the Year in Florida, also boasts a 4.2 GPA in the classroom.

In addition to Hurst, the Wildcats also boast rising seniors Roger Reyes (6-5, 285 – 4.07 GPA, 1240 SAT), running back Nelson Parker (6-1, 185 – 2.6 GPA), defensive tackle Roger Hunt (6-3, 275 – 2.57 GPA, 900 SAT), Miami Edison transfer receiver British Mitchell (5-9, 165 – 2.9 GPA), Justin Tedim (TE/H-Back, 6-2, 210 – 4.08 GPA, 1070 SAT), Trevor Catronio (SS/WR/RB, 6-0, 200 – 3.8 GPA, 1000 SAT) and Jordan “JoJo” Jean (DB, 5-8, 165 – 2.7 GPA).

In addition, rising seniors Monarch transfer Leonardo Layun (OLB, 6-1, 205 – 3.0 GPA), Reginald Joseph (DE, 6-4, 215 – 2.8 GPA), Joshua Joseph (S, 5-10, 175 – 2.9 GPA, 1080 SAT), receiver Ben Sherota (WR, 6-0, 175 – 4.2 SAT, 1130 SAT) and rising junior kicker/punter Kristian Hobbs (6-1, 195 – 3.8 GPA), who is already considered one of the best in the country.
